- RJsfishinExplorerPlain English,...4wd,....all wheels must be either turning, or standing still.
So flat tow,....or towing it on a flatbed trailer, probably won't hurt it too bad :) - naturistNomad

If a Wrangler, such as mine for the last for years, can be towed four down with the rear drive line never removed, why would you have to remove it for a dolly?
Bill
Because of the transfer case, Bill. Towing 4 down has all 4 wheels turning at approximately the same rate. On a dolly, 2 of those wheels are not turning at all, and where the turning and not-turning drive shafts meet is in the transfer case. - mowermechExplorerThe Owners Manual says "NO".
However, the correct answer is: It is your vehicle, do what you want. If it breaks, the warranty will not cover it.
Good luck. - Larry-DExplorer II2014 Wrangler, automatic transmission, 4WD - the owners manual states:
"Caution" "DO NOT dolly tow any 4WD vehicle. Internal damage to the transmission or transfer case will occur when a dolly is used when recreational towing."
Jeep defines "Recreational Towing" as "Recreational Towing BEHIND MOTORHOME, ETC".
The caps are like that in the manual.
It goes on to say that for Flat Tow: "not wheels off the ground"
Transmission is in Park for automatic, for Manual transmission it must be in gear
Transfer case is in Neutral
Tow in a forward direction only
Hope this helps - rv2goExplorer III don't have a Wrangler, but my Jeep Cherokee which should have the same drive train states "For recreational towing, the front or rear wheels should not be off the ground. Damage to the transfer will occur".
I take that to mean that it can not be towed on a dolly. - TrackrigExplorer II

Bill - dons2346ExplorerA Wrangler cannot be towed with a dolly without removing the rear driveshaft
- CampincartersExplorerThanks for the information. I will have them check
- Hiker_01ExplorerI would say it depends on the type of transmission (auto, 4wd/2wd). If it can be towed four wheels down, you should be able to tow on a dolly. Look in the owner's manual to see what it says about towing.
Don - dicknellenExplorer IINot if it is a 4X4. I think to tow a 4X4 on a dolly you would need to remove the rear driveshaft. Dick
