Cat Scale Suprise

Bought new in 09 Keystone Everest 5er & finally run thru the Cat scale at the Pilot in Ft Myers leaving Florida a week ago. Been meaning to do this for years but procrastination, no time, in a hurry, what ever.. The spec for the 345S is shipping weight dry 12,237#, carry capacity 1,763# & total is 14,000#.
My trailer weight was 10,900#. Pin listed at 2,000# spec & mine was 2,500#. Empty fresh & gray water tanks & black tank had 6/8gal of water for slushing around. The basement had road trip grill, dehumidifier, oil filled heater, tool box, small compressor, chairs & table, 4 misc various plastic bin boxes filled with camping stuff, not much food & double door fridge empty. Self & DW clothes, towels & bedding, & other misc stuff in various cupboards.
I had no clue the rig was over 1300# lighter than the listed shipping weight on the 09 sales brochure.
Just wondering if anyone else has found the same on their rig???
  • Got a surprise here as well, when I recently weighed my combo.

Trailer, loaded with most everything we take, minus food, came in at 5920. UVW listed is 5260, so we're doing pretty good on limiting the weight of the stuff we take along. The 5920 does include a load of firewood on board in a storage compartment.

Tahoe weighs 5860. This is with the 3rd row seating removed and just me on board. Maybe add another 200 out the door camping.

Combined weight of the Tahoe and trailer was 11780, well below the 13000 GVCW listed in the owner's manual. There was no water on board, since I rarely travel with the water tank full. But I'm satisfied that my combo has over 1200 lbs to spare.

On a sidebar, a place to consider getting your weights done -- Landscape and Garden Supply Yard, one of those places that sells bulk soil/stone by weight. I was in one the other day, noticed their scale out front and asked if I could bring my rig by to get it weighed. They said "sure, no problem", so I went home and brought the combo up. When I was done, I asked them how much I owed them, they said "nothing!". They had my business before this, now they definitely have my business.
  • Most will weigh over there listed unloaded weights.
Propane and batteries are not taken into consideration for the unloaded weight.
I believe some manufactures don't include options in there unloaded weight as well.
  • my travel trailer is 800 pounds over posted weight..

2 different tags state 7,500 pounds.

mine scaled at 2 different scales weight 8,300 Empty... Coachmen.

and I mean Empty. no propane tanks, empty storage tanks, empty storage compartments. No clothes, No food.

I was happily surprised when I crossed the scales this weekend and trailer was still 1,600 under GVWR.

Under weight is always a good surprise.

Was that total weight minus the TV ??

Haha no 5er only weighed in at 13,180.
    GVWR is 14,800.

  • Listed shipping includes the dry pin

Shipping 12,237 minus the dry pin 2000 equals 10,237 on axles

You have 10,900 on axles with 2500 pin -----13,400 (only 600# capacity left)

That 1763# CCC gets eaten up FAST

No momentum, it appears I am missing something. Guess I had the "brain drain".

Your doing good then. Most surprises are on the high side!
