- wa8yxmExplorer IIIHave had like 3 of that class of device over the years.. DO NOT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT (Fully charged) is the best advice I can give.. I have one in float mode even as I type.
Now the one I have won't start the motor home.. BUT IT WILL START THE GENERATOR and then after oh say 30 minutes with the Progressive Dynamics 9180 in Boost mode.. Everything else works great (Been there done that) It will start my car.
When I build a camp fire in some campgrounds they have these "Safety" Fire rings, about 500 pounds of concrete between two different size drain pipes. No way to lift them to add air since they are anchored too boot.
I have a blower and pipe assemble (12 volt blower, exhaust pipe bent to specifications) that works great runs off the jump battery.
I have a few other toys that like that little 20 amp hour AGM as well. - Sport45Explorer II

Thats a good philosophy when it works. With HF hardware (hand tools, etc) I can count on them working at least once. The stuff they have with batteries or power cords don't usually impress me enough to count on in an emergency.
You may get lucky, or you may find you needed it but only thought you had it. - TOMMY47ExplorerTHANKS ALL--just got it.

Guess my question is why do you need one of these?? Do you need to jump start that often, or do you just use as a 12v supply?
Not a CenTech, but I've had a similar unit for years.
The best use is:
You're out boondocking with friends. One has a dead battery (left a light on) and asks you for a jump. Your awning is out, your slide is out and he's hoping you will stow all your gear, drive over and give him a jump! Instead, you point to the storage bin where the jump starter is and tell him to put it back when he's done!
Second best is when YOU left a light on and the starting battery is dead (usually on the toad) you don't have to ask your buddy (or stranger) for a jump.
The compressor feature is handy, too. Great for bikes/motorbikes, will take forever to air a truck tire, but maybe enough to limp to a station. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

rhagfo--I'm the OP. If this question is for me--I'm planning on driving to and all around Alaska next summer. An extra source of power in the middle of nowhere is my goal.

If this is your goal then get a quality unit. If you just wanted an around the home unit then my answer would be different. - TOMMY47Explorerrhagfo--I'm the OP. - alidExplorerI have a 4-5 year old 5in1 and I love it. works great and used the 110 inverter to power my cable modem when my power went out. I don't use the compressor a lot but it does the job.
- westendExplorerAJBert,
If you bought the 12V HF pump with the stainless steel housing, you got a good one. Mine is over 5 yrs old and runs like a top. It's moved thousands of gallons of water. - AJBertExplorerI tend to cringe just about every time I hear "Harbor Freight". Most of what the sell are "disposable" tools. However, I still shop there when I need something for basically a one time use or something consider as a consumable.
Saying that, the best set of screwdrivers I've ever had came from them. Going on ten years now and no sign of wear on the tips what so ever. I bought a bilge pump from them this year that I've yet to use. Hopefully it'll work for my intended purpose to transfer water to my fresh water tank when dry camping.
I do love their prices!
