Chalky Front Cap

I don't know about using it to remove chalking, but it left a blotchy finish. I did a second coat and it was no better. That was right before I stripped it off and went to ZEP.

Anyone try Meguires clean and wax or their premium clean and wax? It claims to be a high end marine/RV wax that also removes light chalking. Becuase my camper is white it is tough to tell how bad the chalking is, but I dont think it's terrible. Worse where the cap wraps around to meet the roof but the rest is not terrible. I am inclined to try it first, but if folks on here say it does not work well then maybe I'll stick with the multi step processes. Thanks!

This stuff in the much smaller bottle will hook you up for ridding the chalk. You don’t even need a buffer but you can use one if you want. I’ve used it both ways.

Also 3m makes some stuff in both blue & green labels that’s fantastic as well.

Note: Use a good quality ‘sealant’ after any of the above products or else you’ll be doing it again in short order (especially if it’s hot weather time).

I like to use Turtle Wax Liquid Ice as a sealant. Been using it for years on my gelcoat boats, trailers, & motor home.

Using ZEP was one of the best decisions I have made. If I had a new RV, I would also use it immediately.

When it comes to a high gloss, mirror finish you cannot beat a gel coat with best hand rubbed coatings used by the show car guys. Of course those finishes are lots of work and are for show cars which will be stored in a garage.

ZEP is an acrylic floor finish so that is the sort of shine you will get. The finish will shine but by comparison to car detailing it will be very slightly dull and hazy.

There are many advantages to ZEP beginning with very low cost and a really, really long lasting finish. I have done some maintenance but I am now on my 6th year with my original ZEP finish. ZEP continues to seal the surface and protect against oxidation.

Last Spring my 5 year old ZEP finish cleaned up with virtually no work. Late in the Fall, I returned from a 15000 mile trip with a bug splattered RV. Fall leaves and gunk landed on the roof and rotted. It sat all winter and looked really dirty when I went to do the Spring cleanup. A thorough spraying with the hose was all it took. There were not even any black streaks to clean up. I did have to use soap and a mop on the nose of the RV to remove the last of the dried on bugs. Once the RV was clean, I used a rag lightly dampened with ZEP and wiped down the entire RV. That took about a half hour most just moving and going up and down the ladder. That is it for another year.

I should mention one downside you will read about if you do a google search. The ZEP finish will not look good and can flake off unless you remove the old waxes. I did a thorough cleaning with dilute ammonia. In fact I did that twice before applying my initial coat of ZEP.

It's usually recommended for older RV's. If you're only doing the front cap you will be okay.
Use the wax of your choice. Prepping for the wax is the important part of the process.

Cut n polish or maybe just polish.
Hardest part is cleanup on a car or boat when it flings everywhere. RV is easy because big flat surfaces easy to wash off.
Go rotary, not orbital. Easily 2-3x as fast.
Try quality polish first on an area, if that doesn’t quite get it, will need to compound then polish.
If there’s decals, remove them or work around them if they’re still in good shape. Don’t polish them.
