Chevrolet Sonic

Go to the web sites for BlueOx, Roadmaster, and Demco. Find the base plate (towing brackets for Roadmaster) that fits that model car, download the installation instructions.

Those instructions will show how each tow bar manufacturer does an installation, each may do it differently. Demco and BlueOx may be most similar, because they permanently install a base plate to which the tow bar attaches.

Roadmaster may use different attachment points, because they install permanent brackets to which an external cross bar (serving function of base plate) is temporarily attached. I've seen a number of Roadmaster installations that don't go through the fascia at all, they go under everything to some point on a front subframe. There is more design flexibility, the way Roadmaster does it.

Not sure about the Sonic, but many of the newer cars require that the front fascia be completely removed and the base plate takes the place of the bumper frame. If the Sonic has an opening in the front fascia of about 1" to 1-1/2", low down, that's where the connection points of the tow bar will connect to the base plate. Once the fascia is replaced, the base plate and its attaching points are completely hidden.

When I remove my tow bar and attachments, I can't see the base plate connectors unless I get down on my hands and knees and get within a couple of feet of the front of the car.

Well I do value others opinions and I do know the manual is very clear, however I was concerned about how the base plate mounted and where the connecting points would come through the grill along with the wiring connections. Thank you for your response and I am sure you will enjoy your Sonic.

Just bought a 2012 Sonic(6 speed auto) and love it. No towing yet but bought it with that in mind. No need to seek opinions from non-experts like me. The manual is very clear and specific.
