Closing of Threads

I realize that some of the folks that read these agree with the moderator on her policy of closing these threads the very moment someone posts something negative about a position.

I would like you all to consider this:

Closing the thread plays directly into the hands of the poster who is being negative. This is very likely exactly what he wants. So he/she can get a thread closed almost at will. This is not a good policy.

Closing the thread also hurts those of us who would like to hear from those who have worked at a specific place to get a better idea of the reality of the workplace rather than the HR hype from the company. This can be very valuable. We now do not have even the opportunity for such feedback either negative or positive.

Closing the thread for reasons that are not specified in the user agreement/rules should be done extremely rarely if at all.

Finally closing these threads runs counter to what RV.net stated goal is. The only people hurt by the closing are those that want real information and different perspectives on the jobs offered...It does NOT hurt the poster who jumps on with a negative comment...it only encourages them.

Additionally as I have stated before. The Employers really dont care what is said on this thread about their jobs and few would rarely have time to come back and read it. And if they really are disturbed by a comment or allegation it is always open for them to post a comment refuting the misinformation and clarifying.

In the interests of fairness to the majority of RV.NET users and the employers please re-review this closure policy. As it is now it is a zero sum game. No one benefits.

Thank You

End of story....I have stated the position...it will not change. Those of you unhappy are free to leave..... I will delete any further reference to thread closings.

Lets all turn and acknowledge the Elephant in the Room.

It is simply this: I believe in openness (with civility and within rules of decorum) I believe that the more we hear especially if it is negative, can be valuable in posts like these. Just as valuable if not more than the Rah Rah cheerleading that passes for so much information here.

I believe we are all ADULTS and can filter for ourselves the cranks and the flammers and that many will have enough sense to separate the wheat from the chaff.

My view of the Moderators mindset is this:

She believes that we all should be protected(especially the Employers) from negativity.

She believes she has found the solution DESPITE many comments to the contrary and the evidence.

She is completely sure in her belief she is RIGHT and will not consider even a compromise. I think this is the part that is most disturbing.

I also think that many on this forum are afraid to disagree with her because she is so quick to delete that they are afraid that they will be banned for no more than simple disagreement about how the thread is moderated. (I do not share this belief)

While the idea to start another thread about an employment notice is one way to do this, what does it accomplish? If you are going to have a truly open discussion about an employer or a particular job why not just leave it under the original job post? There is nothing gained by opening another thread.

I realize that the Moderator has been in her position for a very very long time and that she gives of her time and efforts freely. I also acknowledge that she is doing what she thinks best. I also acknowledge that there may have been a time when the forum was not so polite and that she has weathered some challenges. But times change, situations change and demand new perspectives, new strategies and an open mindset to be able to move forward to improve.

Thanks to all of those that contributed to this thread. I think it has been an important airing of ideas and opinions. I hope that things will change as far as the employment posts are concerned as this is one of the most important parts of this site for many who need to work as well as travel.

Maybe because it was off topic?

As you admit to not reading all of the thread, I thought you might like to know.

I went back and checked. I did read the whole thread. Someone, western rv? commented with amazon in the mix. In the 6th or 7th post in the thread. If deletions are for thread off topic it could be a one page thread. The moderatirs are for good sam and goodsams bedmates. Take that however you wish, or interpret at will, lol . One question though, how mant goodsam members come back with success stories regarding goodsam team handling there beef/claim? Answer: very few.

Well, while the thread was mainly about the closing of threads by what I view as an over zealous moderator AMAZON was at the core of the discussion and was the thread that started this one. I dont see that as "Off Topic"

While maddczech might not use a lot of pretty language or punctuation and he may not be as "politically correct" as some might like. I for one would have wanted to hear his contribution. Not every good book has a pretty cover. But that doesnt negate the value or veracity of what he may write here on this forum.

I agree and sent him a PM.

Further the thread goes off track quickly as evidenced by maddczech, just above me. He has every right to post this information and bash Amazon, BUT this thread is not about them, but rather the closing of threads. If your want to discuss other things the place of employment, start another thread. It is not hard.

I now see the wisdom of closing work camping job listings threads.

This just my opinion and I hope that Diane will chime in and explain it better.

Mczech here, sorry about the curveball I so " viciously " interjected in the thread . I get notifications. However this time I chimed in when notified w/ o reading the complete thread from the beginning. Omg it wasn't about @mazon ! But I read the comment about amzon.... Yup well shoot me. I didn't bash amazon. But I could. You ain't in my shoes , they don't fit you. Please don't assume. You know the adage about that ! But since you all about thread ettiquette and not about workcamping for amazon. Anybody want more bout that just contact me. Amazon does have good points in the camperforce program. But you gotta wanna work !
There is a thread in this forum where the person who started it is practically begging people to bash Amazon. That would be a good place for you to tell the world that getting a paycheck at Amazon requires having to work for it. Apparently that is something not everyone realizes, that paying jobs usually require that you perform some work. I always assumed people knew that. Silly Me.

4X4Doger: You said "I understand your position but under Diane's unbending view of this situation the minute someone posts something negative about an employer she will close the ENTIRE thread. Regardless if it has been started by me or an employer. At least that is my understanding of what she is saying."

This topic has come up at least twice this year previously:

This may clear up some confusion:

On 01-13-15 The Dianne posted:

"MODERATOR NOTE:

I am appalled at the negativity from some members regarding job postings on this forum. Last night I spent a lot of time deleting and cleaning up threads.

From this point on, I am asking those posting positions to provide contact information. Then I am going to close the thread.

For those interested in a position, contact the OP.

First of all, Diane needs no defending.

Diane does not close when a post goes "negative."

As I understand the issue, and what Diane has posted in the past, she tries to close a post as soon as it appears. By doing so it becomes a "classified." Nothing more or nothing less.

Some times she does not see the ad right away and a discussion starts with many off topic items, and negativity which is not allowed.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I learned that you don't have to agree. They own the forum.

I have to say if all the comments an employer gets are negative there just might be a little fire somewhere under all that smoke and potential employees should be able to read those comments and draw their own conclusions. If a previous employee or even the employer would like to refute any negative comments they should be granted equal opportunity to speak their mind. I have confidence that the readers of this forum are all mature enough to be able to see through a "flame" when it is presented. If I am an employer I can, as stated above, gain some insight into how I am running my business by reading the posts. If an employer is put off by negative comments they have the privilege of responding, not posting their 'opportunity', or talking some of their previous employees into posting positive responses. When I read comments on e-Bay, Amazon, etc. about products I can read both negative and positive without censorship. I am having trouble understanding why we shouldn't be granted the same privilege here?

That being said, it appears we are at an impasse as to what the forum members want vs what the moderator and potential employers will tolerate. In the kinder/gentler world we live it today, Western is on target with the suggestion to not allow followup posts on an 'employers' thread' but do allow new threads to be created referencing the 'employers' thread'.

You are right about this particular thread at that particular time. But we shall never know what we may have learned if the thread remained open.

The position at Amazon is very attractive to me and my friend, but I would like to hear more about it here on this forum. Especially from people who have worked it. And I want to hear BOTH SIDES the good and the BAD. I am an adult I can make up my mind for myself. I do not need protecting from disagreeable or negative opinions. That is what this is all about after all...and with the Mods policy that is impossible.
You are a forum member, so start a new thread about working at Amazon. It will be allowed to run if it remains civil. That is the proper place to have that discussion, not in Amazon's help wanted ad. This particular forum is the only one on RV.net that allows employers and employees to advertise to each other. The world is full of ads where positions, products and services are offered, with no ability to comment on the products or positions. You don't go to Monster.com and complain about Amazon. You don't go to Match.com and say someone's profile picture is ugly. If what you want is this forum to have the occasional position posted by an unsuspecting employer only for the pleasure of reading posts by people who want to bash the position, the pay, the location etc. etc. that is what you are going to get. If you want positions posted consistently, so someone can actually know what is available, then comments on those positions cannot occur. No employer is willing going to post a job knowing all it is going to draw is a bunch of negative comments.

X2 I tried to say the same thing on page one, just not as clearly as Western.

If you want to discuss a certain position/employer, start another thread.

I understand your position but under Diane's unbending view of this situation the minute someone posts something negative about an employer she will close the ENTIRE thread. Regardless if it has been started by me or an employer. At least that is my understanding of what she is saying.

I do not understand how that serves the needs or interests of anyone here.

I will open that thread and let's see what happens....
