Coach-Net Road Side Assistance -- Are you unhappy?

TenOC

I have read some of the complaints on Good Sam Road Side Assistance on the page on road side assistance. I understand that only unhappy customers will post to the forum thus one should remember that the happy customers may outnumber the unhappy customers.

After reading the complaints my worry is (1) the time delay in receiving help and (2) the incompetence (poor training) of the person who answers the phone.

I normally do not carry roadside assistance insurance. At $200 per year and only using it -- say once in 5 years, I can pay a $1,000 tow bill. If I brake down, why not call 911 and let the highway police call the quick response tow servic. This way I will not sit on the highway for hours waiting for a tow truck.

A number of the posting suggest Coach-Net as a replacement to Good Sam. Are any of you unhappy with service you received form Coach-Net???
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

I don't know whether I can say that I'm unhappy. But I do know that we will always carry AAA.

A few years ago we cancelled our AAA and signed up with CN. One night at 12 am I broke down in Erie, PA. It wasn't the tow vehicle, but we had the coverage for all. CN was real nice on the phone and tried to be helpful, but they couldn't find anyone who would respond for them. The tow companies never heard of Coach Net and wouldn't deal with them. They finally found someone in a small town 40 miles away. It took 3 hours for someone to actually come.

The one good thing about it was the CN guy also called the local cops since there was a lone woman broke down on the side of the road in the middle of the night. So a cop stayed with me most of the time until his supervisor told him to move on.

The moral of the story is CN isn't accepted or known everywhere - not even in the 3rd largest city in PA.

We now carry CN and AAA.

Coach-Net is a division of the National Motor Club, one of the largest independently owned ERS providers in the country. NMC has been in business since since 1956, and the RV specialized Coach-Net division since 1987. Any tow operator that hasn't heard of them is either very new to the business, or not keeping up with what goes in the industry. Coach-Net is usually ranked among the top three ERS dispatch companies for payment amount and speed of payment in the ongoing tow industry survey conducted by towPartners, the largest towing industry organization in the country.

I'll just add that when Coach-Net deals with a service provider that's not one of their contracted 40,000 roadside service providers, they pay by credit card on the spot.
That sure sounds good, but not what happened in my hours of need. I was on the phone with the CN guy many times during that breakdown and he told me how things were going and that he couldn't find anyone to respond.

And when I called CN later to see if there was something else I could have done - like call someone myself and be repaid - I was told I had to wait for CN to find someone and only if they couldn't find anyone at all, then they would let me know and I should call someone on my own.

It kinda sounds like you think I made this story up.

Good luck with that one........ tell us how it turned out....

In TX I had a flat on my TT. Call 911 explained the problem and requested a police car with flashing lights to "protect" me from cars zipping by on the interstate. 10 minutes later a highway patrol showed up. He said I did the correct thing.

We have a small Class C with duallies in the rear. We used to have AAA ERS for it (total of around 40 years with AAA at that point). One day about to leave on a trip one of the inside rear duals was flat - right in our own back yard. We called AAA and they said that they had a policy not to change flat tires on dual tire sets. Most motorhomes have dual tires in the rear. I couldn't comprehend that AAA policy.

We dropped them ASAP like a rock and switched to Coach-Net.

Hello 911, I have a flat and need a cop. They'll tell you to call a tow service.

Ever tried it? I broke down (fuel pump) while towing, called 911, explained my predicament, and they called a flatbed tow truck, which hauled me, my family, and the TT and TV to a nearby repair facility.

Used CN several times before I got smart and put on new tires. One time I turned too quick and got the rear tires stuck. Great service on all.

One I wasn't sure about. Blowout in 35'MH on I95 FL/GA line. Chap showed up in a pickup. Got out and only had 1 arm! No air and only jack was a bottle jack. I was not happy until I realized he had me on the road in less than 30 minutes.

At the beginning I was going to complain to CN. At the end I tipped the chap big and wrote a strong letter of appreciation to CN. He could be sitting on the couch drawing welfare but here he was doing great things.

All other times (3 ea) CN showed up with big trucks with lots of equipment.

Used Roadside assistance twice in the past 5? years towing a TT - both times turned out to be a positive experience.

Coachnet has plans that cover your cars, etc.

My Coachnet story goes like this. We had AAA. We had a blowout on a Friday. 40 DP, no spare. They had no clue. Couldn't believe I didn't have one. Suggested I drive to a gas station and buy one.

I tried to explain I needed a mobile semi truck to come put one on.

This was beyond the agent and her supervisors comprehension.

I called around and found a real tire place that took AAA. Set it all up but by then it was too late to get tire until Monday.

Joined Coachnet the next week.

IT does not cover other vehicles you own and they want the VIN # of the RV you have. I think that Good Sam and Coach NET dispatch from the same tow trucks etc. Matters on pricing and customer service I think.

Coach Net the only downside is that the basic membership covers your RV if you are with it, if it is attached to your truck if it is a trailer and fifth wheel and totally with it and not at home( I could be wrong about that though) with motorized RV. There are upgrades to be had for more money. I was told by my Progressive agent that I have roadside assistance with my insurance, does anyone have any experience with Progressive Road Side assistance? It cost something like $12 extra so I put it on, no brainer but ANY ONE tried it out???

I used them once when I locked my keys in my truck. They were there within 30 minutes and had my door open in another 15 minutes. Called me twice, once to tell me who was coming and when they would be there and another time to make sure they were actually there. Before vehicle was opened, service provider asked for my driver's license and after opened asked for registration to make sure he was not opening a vehicle with keys on the seat for a car thief.

Call 911 for a flat tire? Good idea. ๐Ÿ˜‰

People get killed "parked" on the side of the interstate. That is why we have the Move Over laws.

Yes, I will want a police car with its flashing lights behind me while I change the tire on my TT

Then no one should waste their money on AAA, Coach-Net, Good Sam, Etc.?
Just call 911 for a dead battery? ๐Ÿ™‚

I can see that happening, NOT. Hello 911, I have a flat and need a cop. They'll tell you to call a tow service. That's what flares and road triangles are for. A flat tire is not a 911 EMERGENCY.

Coach Net is great. Carried them for many years with no tow. Then we had a rash of tows. Wife's car needed to be towed when the clutch blew, yes it includes your personal car also. Then we needed out fifth wheel towed Twice on one trip. One MH towing. Added up the costs and I exceeded what I paid over all the years.

Remember they will tow you to the nearest repair location regardless of distance. Need a tire? They'll find you one. Just having someone who can call around the unknown area you are in is worth it.

First thing Coach net asks you , "are you in a safe place".

You need to add the word qualified to the highlighted sentence. One of the RV forum members was towed from Alaska to the lower 48 because that was the closest "qualified repair center".

We have coach net, but thankfully have not needed to use them. We chose coach net because of the good reviews we found over and over for them. Camping World - not so much. Our 1 basic policy will cover our car, motorcycles and the motorhome. I'd say we're getting a great deal for the cost. We paid $79 per year when purchased.

Been with CoachNet 15+ years and used them on multiple occasions for everything from a dead battery to a tow, plus everything in between and NEVER had one thing to complain about. Your $200 is way high, unless your using Cad $$. I just renewed mine and it was for $139/1 yr or $437/3 years.
