From time to time I find it necessary to store my class A at a storage facility. What do you pay for storage and what are you willing to pay for storage?
I'm in an open ended shed at a gated facility at the edge of a small city for $216 every six months. There's one down the road that's $150 a month for a space in a building. That one is 15 miles north of a city of 500,000 where land around it is being developed. Where land more valuable, you'll pay more to rent the use of it.
$700 per year, if you pay for the year up front ($58.34/month), saving about $6.66/month. It's a "contractor" storage area directly next to the railroad tracks, but the RV and boat area is separate with their own gate. Gravel parking lot. Some spots are level, some aren't. No trees. Eight foot barbed-wire topped fence. One security camera, at the gate/entry key pad. There's a chick living there in her RV, so I guess she's kinda like a night watchman. It's the most reasonably priced place I could find and it's 10 minutes from our S&B. Around here, finding a spot at all can be a shoot of the dice. Particularly, if you start looking in December (when we took delivery of our TC). We were lucky. I was at the right place at the right time when I secured our spot for the year. Now, there's a waiting list. Recently, a friend with 3 acres and no trees offered to let me keep our truck camper on the grass in his back yard. I think I'll take him up on the offer. We live in the woods on a lake, and there's simply no place to put it when it's off the truck. Remote storage is our only option. The house goes on the market next April, so we can get a place with more space. Working on the stupid house, getting it ready to sell, is cutting into my camping time this Summer. I guess one way or another, you're gonna pay. I can't wait to see what my friend's free spot costs me.
You should shake your head as there's so many ways to avoid paying for RV etc storage at all! You, as in the RV owner, are the one who controls the possibility of needing a pay storage scenario or not by the decisions you make/made. Make the wrong decisions and you are captive to paying each and every year going forward until you finally wise up to the ripoff.
Why is it that RV'ers complain so often about paying $30 a day for an RV site use having electric, water, and maybe even sewer and other ammenities for their unlimited use while there but at the same time are willing to pay $50 ($600 a year) or so much more just for letting their unused RV sit empty on someones piece of land about the size of the RV's footprint and put up with it year after year. Money thrown down the drain!
My post was to bring to light the fact that there are other options that will save thousands of dollars over the life of the RV or boat etc ownership and not even have to haul it anywhere to "store" it. I had only touched on one of the many ways that are very possible. Some people care and some don't and so be it!
The OP's thread says/asks: "Cost of storing your RV" and that's what I had addressed!
$25/year for storage in our HOA lot. barbed wire, gated and locked, private entrance with security cameras and within a 1 minute walk from our house. No dump, water
