Credit Cards For Fuel Discounts

All of us are concerned with current high fuel prices. I have been trying to research using credit cards for either cash back or discounts at the pump to help save some money on fuel. What I'm finding is very confusing and doesn't really give me any definitive answers. So I thought I would go directly to the source. Those that are currently using cards for that very reason. So what are you all using to get the most discounts for your fuel purchases. I am not interested in getting any kind of rewards points. I'm specifically looking for discounts at the pump or cash back for gas purchases. What say you? Chuck

You're in Florida, so I'll bet you shop Publix, at least occasionally.

When Publix has gas card weekends, they offer $50 gas cards for $40 with a minimum $50 grocery purchase. That's a 20% savings --- with gas at $5.00 per gallon, that equates to about $1.00 per gallon discount.

We buy BOGO's (which also count towards your $50 minimum purchase), and it ends up being a win-win. You've got to be a savvy shopper to get deals at Publix, because yes, on many items they are the higher-priced alternative to other stores.

You can actually purchase one card for each $50 spent, so if you tally up $100, you can buy two cards, and so on.

In our area the 3 main gas cards they sell are Shell, Mobil, and RaceTrac.

Good Sam Pilot/Flying J cards offer one to three cents per gallon depending on the station. And in many stations, we could not get the card to work. Cut it into little pieces. Chuck

To buy gas I use my GS card in combination with my Visa card which gives 5% cash back. So at $4.00 a gallon for gas I save $.25, pay $3.75
I understand that if you get a Pilot/Flying J credit card you might save more.

I just got a "76" card.. I'm not full time or diesel.. Just want something other than 7-11, wally mart, costco, safeway, etc gas...

Been noticing that their prices are not all that much lower?

I see 76 stations (on average) at least .30 lower than the shells, cheverons, etc...

I really only go to shell, chevron otherwise and get a .10 off of the pump and .04 on the bill.. Same deal with 76, but they all seem to be .30 lower off the bat, so....

Also, the F150 is parked in the garage and only used to tow... Daily grind is now in the 2014 Ford Escape "Titanium" 2.0 EcoBoost... ๐Ÿ™‚ Love it for day to day..

I do miss driving the truck daily. But, $100 fill up compared to $50 fill ups for the same miles is helping a TON! ๐Ÿ™‚

Camping... Well, that's just the cost of it now.. So I deal with it and don't worry about it, 'cause I ain't not going camping to save a few $$

AAA credit card gives 5% off on swipe at the pump purchases anywhere. We only use it for fuel, AAA knows it and will deny any other attempted purchase. makes bookkeeping easy to separate personal from business expense.

I recently used my TSD/EFS card at a TA truck stop in Denver, if my memory is accurate it was about 168 gallons of diesel, pump price showed $938. TSD extracted $883 from my bank. Better than nothing!

I use my Costco credit card at Costco gas stations and receive 4% cash back on fuel. Recently fueled up with diesel at $6.00 per gallon, netted out at $5.76. They have the lowest price locally plus cash back. This discount works at dedicated gas stations, but not at stores that have stations like Safeway and Walmart.

Downside is, even though there are plenty of Costco stations, very few have diesel. I have an auxiliary tank so I can manage short trips up and back without refueling. This has worked well for me and my travelling style.

Do yโ€™all with EFS cards have your own business or corporation?
And $50 off $280 is like 18% or $.89/gallon. Sounds too good to be true?
But always willing to learn. As I donโ€™t own a business, how would I get a card?

I've had decent success with the branded loyalty cards. Shell card at Shell, Flying J at Flying J, etc. It's a lot to keep straight though.

AmEx is also good about kicking back a percentage for fuel and groceries. I think it's 4% for gas and 6% at groceries (at least it's been 6% at Publix & Kroger/Ralphs), which has been pretty nice.

Cards for diesel only really don't help me much but may be helpful to others. I cut up my Good Sam card after it became more of a hassle than the few pennies we saved. The discount is about a penny a gallon and the problems trying to even use the card was just not worth it. Chuck

For gas I use Pentagon Federal Credit Union VISA card which gives me 5% cashback on fuel purchases, comes off the monthly statement (I don't think this card is available any longer). For diesel I use a fuel card from TSD Logistics. This provides discounts at the pump in the truck fueling lanes. Participating stations can change with time. I've found best discount at T/A stations. Funds must be drawn from checking or savings account. If I can't find a discount station I use my PFCU Visa.

I'm currently using the EFS/TSD Fleet card, only good on Diesel at major Truck Stops. Doesn't work at Pilot/Flying J because Marcus has a Good Sam deal with them, if Life GS member 8 cents of Diesel and 6 cents off Gas, but works at Loves, TA, Petro and some of the other big names. Discount varies by station with an on-line app showing stations and the discount. Just saved $50 on a $280 fill-up. This is not a Credit Card, but more of a Debit Card as it has to be tied directly to an account.

EFS. Saves up to .45 per gallon at Loves, TA, Petro. Use the GS FJ/Pilot very rarely which saves .14 per gallon.
