Our TT has experienced this, while it was in storage outside in central Alberta. It was resealed to prevent further problems and while it doesn't look nice it appears there are no further problems and we are happily using it in the summer, wrinkles and all. But now we are looking at a 1997 Class C Minnie Winnie that has wrinkles too, and I assume the cause is the same - leakage. It's a good price, not ridiculously low but mid-range from what I can tell for this model at this age with this mileage.Is there any way to discover if there is damage from water other than the appearance? Any way to discover if we would be in for expensive repair bills?TIA

Properly repairing delimitation is expensive. Unless you put in a whole new piece of wall, I do't know if it is possible to repair so it looks like new. We had this problem on our old Titanium where the bedroom window seals leaked. We got it all stuck back together and structurally it was fine, We used it for several more years with no issues at all but it never looked right. If water has penetrated all the way through the core, signs should be visible on the inside walls as well.

Delam is not just a cosmetic issue, the strength of the wall is compromised.

I don't see any flaws in your plan. Find a nice one and enjoy without the big payments. 8 years for us now.

After much consideration we have decided to go a different route and look for an older, cheaper, but sound Class C that we can drive til it drops. Even if we end up spending money on repairs over the next 5 years, it will be cheaper in the long run we think than the problems associated with the newer units. At some point it will be parked as a remote office and not driven anyway.

Yeah we decided to pass. Dealer says the problem has been fixed but how to be sure of underlying damage?

I owned a Class C motor home for 10 years. At about 3 years old, one side of the cabover delaminated and we spent a few thousands of dollars repairing it. About 3 years later, the other side delaminated and we spent a comparable amount. A year or 2 later, the first side delaminated again, but the shop fixed that for free under their warranty.

We now own an Airstream TT. While it may leak, it won't delaminate.

Ha ha ha... partially that! But mainly because the aluminum siding doesn't require that luan for structural support. There are 2x2's and luan behind the aluminum that support the roof in the event of a leak. Also, aluminum is easier and cheaper to fix than fiberglass.

Fiberglass does look a lot better though... when it isn't delaminating!

Do not consider for purchase unless you love problems!! It's likely the roof sealants were not maintained. Had a new unit that was "returned" due to delamination. If you have access to a moisture meter, you can determine wet area under fiberglass. This is how we managed to ditch the lemon we bought.

Ours was like this also. After purchasing we found out we had a leak. We fixed the leak 8 years ago and have been very satisfied with the rig. When you walk past the passenger side it does give you a friendly wave though.
