Ditching the free standing table... but for what?

Our new to use 5th wheel is a model that comes with a sleeper sofa and a free standing table/chairs. The original table/chairs are gone, and the replacement card table is also gone.

We need something that can be use for sitting or sleeping, eating is nice but possibly not required.

Our initial thought was to build a day bed, as it can be used as a seat and bed as well as lots of storage for kids clothes. The biggest issue is there isn't a table, thou 95% of our meals are eaten outside. Maybe some Lagun table mounts?

The other option is to add a dinette and call it good. Not quite as much storage as the day bed, but it has a table for when we need it.

Has anyone done anything different?

We have a 74"x 42" area to build/install something.
  • Not trying to be difficult but I'm confused. You mentioned a missing freestanding table and chairs, and what sounds like an existing sleeper sofa. You want something for sitting or sleeping.

Are you looking for a replacement unit if you decide to remove the existing sleeper sofa?

Or are you just looking for a separate table unit that could also be used as a second sleeping unit?
  • The sleeper sofa is staying, simply describing what it has.. or doesn’t have as the tables are gone.

Wanting to know what people have done to replace free standing tables with sleeping furniture (day bed, dinette, etc).
  • Hate the freestanding table & chairs on our latest rig.

If you find an RV junk yard, good chance you can pick up a dinnet. Not hard to install. That gives you storage, a place to eat and can be converted to more sleeping space.

    Will a Futon fit?

There are shorter ones that would likely fit, but no storage or table so it's not a good option for us.

    My thought as well.

One option is a "Storage bench" with a back that can be moved around to form a bed when you need it.. I have a design in mind but.. alas I can't post it to the forum. The unit would have to have a fold out legs on the "Back" part that lock in place on one part and brackets to Hook on to the base on the other.
  • All I can think of is a booth dinette with storage under the seats and it turns into a bed when the table is put in that position. Craig
  • Thinking along the lines of a dinette - I always liked the U-shaped ones - they seemed more comfy for sitting/watching TV - and would have massive storage underneath?

My folks have had 2, one in their Lance and now one in their Glacier Peak.

Great for sitting, not great for more than 2 people eating as the table is very small.
