Do I need to condition my slide seals against drying out?

Heard this on another group and its something we never thought about and we have two slides on our new class A. If so, what do I use?
  • Nothing for 20 years, appears some trying to sell products, not even sure they even have an RV with slides.
  • For our Grand Design the factory recommends talcum powder in a sock.

    16 years, same issue.
Although I am not full time so mine are mostly retracted and out of the sun.
I am more inclined to just replace them at the 40 year mark.

  • I use Talc powder. Pour some into an old sock, tie off the top and apply to the rubber gaskets/seals. Can actually hear the slide speed up when opening/closing. Doesn't attract dirt or dust.
  • Never have used anything and my RV is in the Sun for 7 years with no issue. Same with the two previous RV's. Never condition my roofs, RV or Truck tires.
  • Any UV protectant, such as above, will help protect the seals. I use Thetford premium RV slide seal conditioner on my seals/wipers, and baggage door seals. It has UV protectant and conditioner, to keep the seals soft and pliable.

It is a spray on foam, that doesn't run, or make a mess. I use a small soft cloth to finish rubbing it in.

  • Do you need to not sure, should you most likely. I know there are a bunch of products out there. Just look at its and another one of those yearly maintance things.
