OP, yes you need to lower your hitch ball because your new truck sits higher. Don't forget that your old half ton had a softer suspension than your new 3/4 ton. I don't know your weights, but I know that the Ram will have much less squat with that trailer than your Ford did. Take that into the equation when you decide how much drop you need in your new shank.
