Every state has fuel taxes. The difference in Oregon is how they're collected. Most states include them in the price at the pump, and that's how the users pay them--the station collects the tax and remits it to the state.

But in Oregon, truckers report their fuel purchases and pay taxes on them later, instead of at the pump. So the price at the pump at truck stops doesn't include the tax. Non-truckers in Oregon do like everywhere else--pay the tax as part of the pump price.

That's why you'll see lower prices advertised at truck stops (where tax isn't include in the pump price) than at 7-Eleven, where tax is included in the pump price because the people buying fuel there pay the tax at the time of purchase.

They don't even mention it on their website, or their documents showing prices at various retailers. Someone once said they do mention it on their app (which I don't have), and it doesn't sound like they incorporate it in the prices shown on their app, but that might be because truckers and RVers uses the same app, and truckers are their real customers.

Current price is showing $1.97 at the Portland T/A. CA is $2.95 just south of Bakersfield T/A or Petro $2.83 Redding. No mention of OR tax but I'm still using the old app as it routes ahead further than the new radius.
