Drive safe??? WALK safe!!!!!

I debated about saying anything here.....and not sure this is the right forum. Next time we're traveling I wish someone would remind me to WALK safe!!!! First a doc in ER in Parker, AZ told us to head home....thought I had Valley Fever.....not so sure about that, but we were ready considering I was sick all winter. FIRST rest area on the way home Tuesday (Kingman AZ) I was hauling a$$ for the restroom.............did NOT see the curb!!!!!!!! Long story short........I have 2 broken bones in left elbow (surgery Tuesday), possible fracture on left wrist, and definite fracture on right elbow!!!!!!!!!!!!! and bruises!!!! BOY HOWDY do I have bruises! I also may have a fracture or bad bruise on my lowest rib on the left. yeah..............next time I use the bathroom in our rig!!!!!!!!!
  • Wow! You must have been a challenge for that ortho surgeon to put back together! I hope you've got some good pain meds. Was the rib broken? That's especially painful because you can't really avoid breathing and every single breath hurts. If anybody asks what happened, tell them it was a skateboarding accident. :W That's what I hear is the cause of most elbow fractures. Feel better soon.

Oh, no, you poor thing! I've had several of those accidents in the past few years and I know how it feels to have the ground come up and smack the daylights right out of you! Here's what will sound like a dumb question: Have you had your eyes checked recently? The reason I ask is because I have glaucoma and have lost a lot of peripheral vision. A couple of my accidents were similar to yours because if I am looking straight ahead, I cannot see what is on the ground in front of me, like curbs, rocks, holes or my dog. When I realized that was what was happening, I found that I could compensate by looking around more. But get some rest, take your meds and heal quickly. Gravity is our enemy. We first meet it as small children but in later years, it works harder at pulling us underground for good. Take care and don't let gravity win! :B
it's been 2 yrs.... might b good idea for check.

ok...surgery was tues. in full cast on lft aem. broke 2 bones in lft elbow, 1 of them in 3 pieces. fractured lft wrist and right elboe and did something to my lft shoulder............. arrrrrrrrrgh

    thank yu everyone
  • CA POPPY, you have such a way with words lol. Another thing I need to watch out for is picking my feet high enough to get on the upper surface of things like curbs etc. That can be a blow to the knees for sure!

  • Hope you get through this without any repercussions. Get your bone density checked just in case.
  • I think that is the same rest area along I-40 that my wife fell in years ago and sprained her ankle severely. Good luck on your road to recovery.
  • Just hearing about it makes my gut shiver!! Sounds like you got home OK, maybe they will give you good drugs to keep you from too much pain and such. Hope the new doc helps out, and gets you back on the road soon!
  • Oh...we did.....that day was a 12 hr day (including ER), then 2 8 hour days. Got home about 3:30 Thurs.....called an ortho I'd NEVER been to and got in at 8:00 the next morning!!!! How's that for service!!!! :)
