eraser marks on Travel Trailer

Last weekend when we returned home from our Northern Michigan trip I noticed silver metallic specs all over the road side of the trailer and front cap just on the road side, well I had to use magic eraser and black streak remover to get if off which it did on the side but the front cap I made the specs smaller but could not remove them. But that is the least of my troubles when the TT dried I noticed there were eraser marks where I really had to scrub to get the specs off I can post pics later but if I use rubbing compound will it take the marks off it is a smooth sided TT 2003 Aruba I tried washing it with the liquid blue coral soap and wax combo but the marks are still there.

The advice is not to repeat the vigorous method used the first time but to gently displace the remnants of the disintegrated magic marker and then wash them off with soapy water.

This kind of a hazy film was left on the cladding on my car after I waxed it and left wax on the cladding and used a magic eraser to remove the wax. The residue would not wash off but came off with the method I have described.

Well I would say I don’t know because I have never used a magic eraser… but to use it again sounds like the advice once given, to tighten the nut until it strips, then back it off ¼ turn…

The magic eraser degrades as it is used and leaves behind a white residue. Is it possible that this residue is what you are seeing? The residue can be removed by lightly using the wet magic eraser again and then washing the area before it dries with soapy water. That would be the best possible outcome.

The wax/shiny finish was probably removed with the cleaning. Try waxing that side.

This is why the instructions on these types of products most always state: "Try product on a small test area that is out of sight before use"

Many people have discovered that Magic Eraser is an abrasive, think about a very fine sandpaper!

You have damaged the paint or gel coat. Rubbing compound is also an abrasive and may cause further damage.

Try wax, it also is a mild abrasive but includes sealers and other gloss coatings.

I"d find out what the "silver specs" were before trying to guess what would remove them. I know that's not what you're working on now but it IS related to your problem. I have never used the Eraser on my trailer but MOST of the spots I get are either bugs or road tar and bug and tar remover work wonders for them.

I would use a polish/wax combo to polish it out.
