You broke down in LA, and are not that far from El Monte's Corporate offices. My guess is they have the mechanics that can make such a repair? Probably have changed out those parking brakes many times on other rental units.
Check with El Monte and see if they can make the repair and bill the insurance co. The transmission is part of the powertrain, and my guess is a high dollar lawyer on your part will claim is it a covered part. The parking brake is part of the transmission, mounted right to it.
