Ford dealer can't make Integrated TBC work

I have a new 2014 E 150 with a factory tow package and an electronic message center instrument cluster. I had them install the integrated TBC . The plug was in the dash ,and all fuses for the brake control were in the fuse box and power distribution box. They tried to program it and say they cant make it work .Doesn't add up to me. Has anyone else had this problem ?
  • I've done a few of these they tend to be problematic but usually you install the controller, install the fuse which is the power to the plug fuse and then go in to the programmable parameters of the instrument cluster and switch trailer control from "disabled" to "enabled".i did have to install a different master cylinder on one because the brake pressure switch was missing. that was an F-250. Unfortunately there isn't much info from Ford on what to do on which vehicles.

    X2
  • Suggest you get their warranty for this work and the comnponents in writing...

Since only a few years of OEM integrated trailer brake controller...suspect
there might be many revisions. Both for the TV's software and the controller

They might have to re-flash the TV's software

Worst case would be hard wiring differences.

  • It's THEIR problem to figure it out or refund your money.

Ford most certainly has some sort of "tech support" system that the local technicians can call if they run into an issue that they do not know the solution for.

These vehicles are so complicated that there is no way the local guy knows everything about everything. There has to be a mechanism in place for when the procedures don't go as described.
  • I tried to install one on my previous van ..2011 E350, The dealership could not program the TBC because I did not have the message center in the vehicle. The TBC displays it's information..."trailer connected", "gain" etc. through the m/center.

If you have the message center, they should be able to program it.
  • I installed mine and had the dealership program it. My understanding is they hook the computer up, pull up their menu options and check a box. Took them about 2 minutes on mine....and cost $150 bucks. :h
