Freezing weather and no hot water

It could also be the cold water supply to the heater that has frozen thus no pressure to push the heated water through.

How cold is pretty cold? Overnight low vs. daytime high....

Yes check the bypass otherwise the line to/from the water heater could be frozen.

Hi,

Replace the cold air return grill with dual window fans. That will push warm cabin air into the cavities and thaw out the lines. I operate mine from a mechanical thermostat kept near the water lines.

In my case, it has the happy effect of pushing a bit of air through the furnace duct work, too.

On my coach last winter when it hit 11 out one of the cold water lines froze,, I still had hot water all over but no cold except in the kitchen.

(Kitchen and water pump on same side).

IF the water heater was full of water, and operating, when the flow stopped there are two possible issues.

ONE frozen line,, PEX freezes and thaws nicely and usually without damage, (Elbows and fittings not so well but PEX can take it:

"Frozen" Check valve (NOTE quotes) Many water heaters have a check valve on the outlet (Some on the inlet as well) and from time to time in the due course o use these stick closed due to mineral build up. IF you have a single valve bypass system you for sure have such a check valve, if you have a 2 or 3 valve you may have such a valve.

If that is the problem and you have
Single valve system: Replace check valve with quarter turn valve or GUT it and add a quarter turn BETWEEN the water heater and the first T fitting.

2 or 3 valve system, GUT IT and forget it.

I wouldn't worry. We used to call it "camping". Heat some water in a pan if you need to. We've done this in cold weather using water out of a 5 gallon jug for several days.

First, I would make sure the water heater is actually working. Does it contain heated water?

If the water heater is working and the interior is warm, the hot water should be flowing as well as the cold water side. Are there hot water pipes that run outside in an area that is not heated? If so, these are subject to freeze damage. If they are in a basement, I'd put a heat source in there to keep it from freezing and damaging the lines.

I would second this ... UNLES you HAD hot water and then lost it ??

If your sure the HW tank has water in it, I would make sure that it is turned on (either electric or gas) so that it doesn't freeze and break the tank.

If you complete your Forum ID & add a "signature" that includes the make & model of your coach, people with the same model or simular model may be more able to help you with a solution.

Do you have a portable heater & can you direct heat in the area along the cold water lines going to the tank or where the water lines enter the HW tank?
