In the past, Iv always hauled BP ultimate gas spiked with seafoam with me since Iv had good luck running it in my motorcycles and honda gen. But this year I figured Id save some weight and buy some at my destination in buena vista colorado. Unfortunately, BP's gas station finder wont find them in colorado for me and google doesn't show a BP there. But is it worth seeking BP out just because my local station seems to have good non ethanol gas? Will I have the same results with other premium gases from Exxon/Mobile, Chevron and Shell. And will it be hard to find premium gas without ethanol in some locations? And the same question goes for diesel. I run a cummins and have read diesel quality varies even more than gas. I'm not going out of my way for specific diesel when traveling. But given the choice of station A on one side vs station B on the other.. Which diesel fuel is the freshest and packs the most btu's?Thanks!

The freshest fuel of either variety will always be found at the highest volume retailer in the area. Whether that's the exact formula you want or not is another issue.

I am surprised your BP premium in Iowa is non ethanol. In Illinois it has ethanol. Some people think it does not, but they are not reading the pump labeling close enough. In the past it did not have it, but those days are gone, at least here.

I believe that BP sold all their stations in Colorado. And the in the area of Colorado you will be visiting I don't see any nonethonal stations. Just buy ethanol I guess. That is what most of us do here without issues.As for diesel I buy wherever I find it and the only problem I ever had was fuel bought from a high volume Conoco station! They were selling summer grade fuel in December.

If looking for alcohol free gas try near boating areas. All of the ones around here are near lakes. Here in MI with more lakes than any other state, we have a lot of boating. We have more than the state that advertises 10,000 lakes.

Even though for years biodiesel has been heralded as a lubricity additive helping keep fuel system components like the moving parts inside fuel injection systems operating smoothly, the bitter irony here is that, when post-injected, it tends to dilute engine oil and interacts with additives and increases the possibility of engine wear. Much work remains developing viscosity improving, anti-wear, dispersant and detergent additive packages in which adverse reactions with biodiesel are significantly reduced.

What is it with ethanol/non-ethanol gas anyway????

Is it a Federal Law to add ethanol or not, or Individual State Laws to add ethanol or not, or a supplier by supplier profit driven motive to add ethanol or not? Not counting non-highway use (airplanes, boats, etc.), how can some stations offer non-ethanol gas for over-the-road use and some not ... sometime's all within the same given state?

I'd sure like some nation-wide uniformity on ethanol being added to gas ... either we all gotta use gas with it in it because that's all that suppliers can legally offer ... or it's legal for all of us to get around using gas with it in it if we can because it's legal for suppliers to not offer gas without ethanol in it if they wish.

All the pumps I've checked always state 'up to' a certain percentage. The only thing you know for sure is the max amount. So you would need to make sure your engine is OK with whatever the max percentage is.

On edit: I also have a fundamental problem with using a food source as fuel (same as corn being turned into ethanol). I fully support the use of biodiesel; I just want them to use a non-food product to produce it.

Good point. I'm not sure what the percentage is. Whatever they sell at the local co-op. It says Bio-Diesel on it but, I've never looked to see the percentage.

Edit; I just looked on line and I think it's 10%

For ethanol free gas try checking pure-gas.org
There is is a list by state for the country.
It might be difficult to find. In the county where I live there
is one station premium and quite expensive.

The Cummins M-11 in our 1999 Freightliner Semi that we have on the farm runs just fine on Bio-Diesel. But, that may not be the same engine you have in your RV's.
