Good Sam bad at Flying J gas.

I thought I was getting the Good Sam discount at Flying J gas stations until I bothered to look at my gas receipt. Wasn't getting the 3 cent discount. Altho I hate going into the store I went in to ask em. The girl said the card I have been using at campgrounds was not "Activated". ??? She redid the transaction while lots of truck drivers waited. She than said she would "Activate" the card for me. Very nice girl. I left but returned into the store, in 5 minutes, to buy some sodas & chips but at a different clerk. I again tried to use the G.Sam discount card and was told that the card was "not activated". LOL. Truck drivers standing in line so I said "nevermind". Anyone else having this type trouble? :R

    These threads always get confusing. Everyone responding needs to specify if they are speaking of the 'Swipe and Save' or the Good Sam charge card. They are two entirely different things.

    i to have never had a problem with f.j. and gladly pay the extra few cents a gallon for the convenience of pulling my 40 footer plus toad in and out with having to back up or worry about the overhead canopy being to low.

    When Pilot took over FJ was the last time FJ was lower on fuel price in my area.

    It just depends upon when and where. Right now GB diesel in Lodi FJ 2.65 Loves 2.69 Lost Hills FJ 2.75 Loves 2.69, Volero 2.63 which is your point. Yet a few miles down the road in Frazier Park FJ is 2.65 with no other big competitor - go figure. The FJ figures do not include my .03 discount.

    Nasty truck lanes can/do occur at many stations. 4 wheelers and the RV lanes are often clueless.

    Not trying to defend FJ as they have their share of issues if not more so. I'm not sure how much if any improvement has occurred with the Pilot takeover. Also I seem to recall some independent FJs that were not part of the merger?

    I have yet to see a Flying J cheaper than a nearby station! My last survey found the cheapest Flying J was .08 cents more than a local station, some were .15 cents and a few were .20 cents a gallon. It just isn't worth it. That on top of the nasty truck islands and the idiots that do their shopping while blocking the other islands.

    My GS card has never changed and it's .03 off of the cash price - and not the sometimes higher truck pump price. And it starts the truck pumps. Plus the 5% CC.

    Now if you stay away from Flying J and quit paying for the size of their lot, you can get another .08-.10 cents a gallon off by buying at the station across the street. Now that's another $5.00 on a fill up. Now you can get your wife a little something for lunch too!

    Not all FJs are higher where I travel and I do price shop without going out of my way. The extended range on my rig certainly helps.

That's $1.50 on a 50 gallon purchase, just enough to buy a candy bar. If you get the PenFed card you get 5%, that's five percent off of every purchase. On a 50 gallon fill up, that's a $7.50 savings, enough for lunch. Between our cars and RV, we usually see about $375.00 in savings a year.

    I have had zero problems at Flying J /Pilot. We usually buy our gas in Dothan Al. at the Pilot and really appreciate the 5 cent discount at the pump.. We also gas up at Pilot in Mariana Fla. and get the same discount except the gas is usually higher in Fl.
    Today we paid $ 1.63 for gas in Dothan..

    Agree with wbwood and we pay the CCs every month so they provide cashless purchases with various cash back besides fuel. But this is possible because of everyone that doesn't pay them off every month. We also don't go out of our way to buy fuel especially with the rig.

    With 8K+ miles per year on the rig the fuel savings add up.

    PenFed Cash Rewards is 5% cash back on fuel every month, card must be swiped at the pump. Second account required and I have a $25 money market account. We use this for all gas and diesel except Costco and truck lanes. For Cosco and truck lanes we use AmEx and get 5% back yearly.

    PenFed also good in Canada with no transaction fees. Not sure about BC with their new law requiring prepayment for fuel. Also don't know what will happen to Cosco in April when they switch to Visa/Citybank.
