Good Sam RV Travel Guide

Just received an email from Camping World showing the 2014 RV Travel Guide for $9.95 (internet price). I've never used this one before - how does this one rate to the other books of this type available? Worth the sale price?
  • It is probably one of the best since Woodall's was absorbed into Good Sam.

I do notice they have a lot less campgrounds than Woodall's use to have.
  • We have two, one in the S&B for planning and one in the fifth wheel for when on the road. I am interested is seeing the latest one, since the "absorption" as we do not buy new every year.
  • The Good Sam Directory is a combinatation of the old Trailer Life Directory and Woodalls.
To me the old Trailer Life was far easier to read then Woodalls.
I do not care for the last couple of editions. I do not care for the thin paper maps that use to be in the front and now are located in the from of each state.
Print is easy to read in most cases.
  • no body can tell me why they didn"t do it like last Woodall

2 books --- E of Miss. --- other West -- much easier to handle when looking when moving, for co pilot to read
  • Agree, however it's so large, it's very difficult to use, especially while driving.

    Sometimes things get too large.

    More money to print 2?
    Most heavy travelers buy both!
  • Well, the guide is "huge". Probably at least 2" thick and pretty heavy. I haven't taken the time to browse through it since I'm not going anywhere for a while but will get it out later to see what it offers.

I can tell you why. Affinity which owned Good Sam bought out Woodalls (the competition) and they ran both companies for some years and then eliminated the competition. (In my opinion only)
  • I knew that, but Marcus could still 2 books would be a better seller i would think, i thought W was owned buy A for quite awhile, while they still had 2 books
  • Hi Everyone, I work on the Good Sam RV Travel Guide and read the thread here and thought I could help.

Yes, Woodalls and Trailer Life Directory combined in 2013. Both were owned by Affinity and over the years it had been thought that putting the two together would make far more sense for the consumer.

When Trailer Life Directory and Woodall’s Campground Directory were combined we were also careful retain the most popular and informative content and information, along with all campground listings, such as the state overviews and travel itineraries that were a hit with Woodall’s readers, along with the favorite Spotlight sections and Good Sam Ratings system trusted by Trailer Life consumers year after year, that our research had shown was important to our readers from both directories. We continue to develop new and interesting content for these sections each year.

With regard to splitting the directory into two - this has not been continued because of the production costs associated with publishing two separate volumes and the increase in cost we would have to pass along to our readers.

Thank you again for your feedback. Be assured that all comments and feedback we receive through our forums, and other channels is all taken very seriously and noted for future editions.

    Kind regards,

    Ellen
