I too find your chain hasp as a safety pin way too much of a weak link. I only use a keyed locking pin on mine. Not afraid that someone will steal my hitch but there is always that kook in the crowd that thinks that it might be a great practical joke to remove or partially remove the pin, just for the fun of it.
