Cell phones are the greatest witness whenever you have an accident or any other emergency situation.
Take pictures of the accident scene (before anything is moved). The other drivers, their proof of insurance, drivers license, vehicle registration, vehicle license number, etc. The idea is to take as many pictures as you can. This will document the event and provide proof of what happened.
After a recent accident, the other person involved tried to blame everything on me; fortunately, I had taken numerous pictures and video of the whole thing on my Smart Phone. The cops and my insurance company came down on my side!
Unless you have a "dash cam" this is the best solution for documenting the event.
