I got my truck/trailer weighed today and here's what I got:Steer: 2940Drive: 3880Trailer axle: 7000Total: 13820The manual says my Tundra Crewmax weighs 5600So....2940+3880=68206820-5600=1220Can I deduce that my tongue weight is around 1220 # ?Or do I add the 1220 to the trailer weight of 7000=8220, and do the 10% rule which is around 800#s?Big difference between 1220 and 800 #s.And no, they wouldn't let me unhook my trailer :-(Any help appreciated, and yes... I know... my truck should only pull a small canoe or it will leave it's axle on my driveway.Thanks !

Racerx11, if your 5600 is accurate, TW appears to be 1220, total trailer weight would appear to be 8220. Need to weigh the truck only. Need to know what is going on each axle.

If you use the 5600# as the actual weight, then remember to add your weight and any passengers/cargo.

Racerx11, I took my rig to CAT certified scale, got split weights, dropped the trailer and then got split weights on the truck. Seems like it was a couple of bucks for the extra weigh. Unfortunately couldn't get accurate splits between the trailer axles, too close together. Overall, good experience with it.

They won't let you drop the TT on the scale but you can drop the TT and then weigh the TV. Do it without the WD hitch and you will have the tongue. Or stop by the local RV repair and use their tongue scale for nothing.

You could 1: make friends with a weighmaster (Diesel Smokey) or two go to www.rvsafety.com and click on the weigh my RV link (Whatever it's called now days).

They bring out portable scales but are a bit pricy compared to a fixed scale.

The Diesel smokey would likely come out, off duty, for the standard "Friend" price (24oz or so)

You can do a tongue weight yourself using any $10 bathroom scale, a stout plan and a brick.

Put a plank between the scale and brick, with tongue in the center double the reading, etc.

Google it, lots of detailed instructions out there.

In Oregon you can weigh for free after hours on the ODOT scales .
The next time your parole officer lets you come to Oregon ( humourous remark ) look for a closed ODOT scale .
You can improve your answer by weighing your pickup sometime when not towing .
Front and back axles each of course .
I have found that none of my trucks / cars have been as light as the manufacturer stated .
Just another perk of living next to the great state of Oregon .

There could be lots of circumstances to check the TW. It could change as you use it.
plus are you going to keep this trailer forever? It will always be handy.

on a side note it sounds like your Toy is overloaded

If you have a bathroom scale and a board you can do THIS. Scroll down until you see the diagram for the bathroom scale. Quite simple, actually.
