Help On Towing Jeep

Well dubdub it does work every time. On hills you don't have push it the hill does that for you. Just take your foot off the brake and ease the shifter forward. Piece of cake either way.

I wouldn't necessarily call it "lucky", just give it a little push forward or backward and the TC slides right into 2Hi. You just have to move it enough for the splines to line up. All of my Jeeps have done that.

On my jeep liberty, if the transfer case does not easily shift from neutral, I jump out and just push it an inch or so and then it slips right in.

No grinding at all.

I have never started any of our Jeeps until the TC is back into 2Hi after towing, I just reach in and push the transfer case lever into position while giving the Jeep a little rocking back and forth, TC slides right into 2Hi. I then start it and be on my way, no grinding or ratcheting sounds at all.

This doesn't seem like an alternative that would "work every time". Pushing a JK a foot or so, come on. This isn't an option most times in the mountains with very uneven terrain.

be aware of another issue...Jeep changed the transfer case linkage a few years ago (I have A 2011) it is now a CABLE with nylon bushings that have molded nylon fingers holding the cable to the shifter levers... these fingers break off, the cable slips off the linkage levers, and you can't shift the transfer case....Jeep has an upgrade kit (that is as close to admitting a design flaw as they will likely come)that "fixes" the issue.... I found out by mine failing, leaving my transfer case in neutral....fortunately, I'm still covered under towing & powertrain warranty.......BUT they only fix the end that broke!!!!!!!
