I have really never experience an 'aggressive' salesman. If that ever started with me, it would turn me off so fast that I would be walking out the door pronto.
I have a tendency to do a lot of research once I have zero'd in on a item that I'm looking for. Do I get the lowest price, probably not. I feel that I get a 'fair' price.
We have bought a couple of upper-end cars lately, two 2017's and a 2018.
In 2014, we special ordered a new 2015 upper-end car. We were going to trade two older cars of the same brand that were bought new and were in very good condition. Once the new car came in, we then had the two older cars valued. I knew what the cars were worth wholesale. We had bought 9 cars from this dealer and they gave us an extremely low-ball offer on both the trades.
It was such a slap in the face we cancelled the new car that had arrived on the lot expecting to lose the deposit. I just didn't understand the actions of a dealer that we had done business with since 1976. Apparently, it didn't make a difference, they didn't budge on the trade prices and after 3 months, our deposit came back without asking. We totally expected to forfeit the deposit. But, they stated that they didn't want to keep a deposit.
It's crazy because we will never buy from that dealership again. We didn't even bargain on the special ordered car, we were paying halfway between MSRP and cost (not counting kickbacks).
Anyway, a long term customer was lost. We have now moved on to a different manufacturer on all three new cars (two from the same, one from another).
