hitch help

I have a f150, 5l, longbox with the heavy duty trailer package. the trailer i am buying is 24 feet long gvw 6800,dry hitch weight 555. My dealer only carry's the two equalizer hitches but can order in whatever you want. They are pushing the e2, 2point WD, sway control system. ( i think both made by the same company) . But i am thinking of buying the original equalizer 4 point WD, sway control system hitch 1000-10k ( more sway control ) Dealer says go with the e2, the equalizer 4 point is over kill for my size of TT. He is adament about it ( sometimes i think he makes more commision on it) I am more into safety. Just need some opinions to decide which one to buy. thanks

    X3

I tried the Fastway E2 and was very disappointed with the attachment brackets, after calling the manufacture who informed me that they had special brackets that were required for our application at an additional cost of $100.00, I was surprised that the correct brackets were not part of the original purchase. I decided to switch back to the Equal-i-zer 4pt and it has been working just fine.
Whats the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" :)

    What he said, X2.

The genuine 4pt Equalizer can be had for around $489 delivered online.

  • I had the 4-way Equilizer (E4). I used it on my sig trailer (~6k before toys) pulled by a '97 GMC 1/2 ton. The combo handled VERY well. I ended up with a bigger truck, needed to buy a larger-drop shank for the unit to work, so I ended up giving the E4 to my father in law who uses it on a 3/4-ton Dodge and 26' trailer. He loves it.
  • They are both friction based hitches and will do a good job. The 4 point is supposed to be a bit better but I am not confident that there is much seat of the pants difference.

The primary points of sway control are similar, both use the WD bars as friction points.

Personally, I'd go with the less expensive of the two. But, buy what makes you happy.

    Thanks!
