I agree with mowermech. I have taken the St Regis cutoff route many times. If you choose 93 be aware of road construction near Ronan. I drove 93 to Missoula from Kalispell on friday. Chip seal at Ronan slowed things down a bunch. On return trip today, I took MT 35 from Polson along east side of the lake. I encountered no road construction.
we go up to flathead and glacier every year.
If you stay on I-90 first, stop at the silver $ bar in haugan MP 15 then to st. regis, go north from st. regis, then go west at the 200 junction to just past Dixon then go north to the buffalo range. comes into 93 just before ronan. and a nice buffalo burger joint at the buffalo range. then at polson go around the lake to glacier via bigfork or go through polson and around the lake the other way to glacier.
Actually my favorite route from spokane if we have the time is to take i-90 to idaho, go north on 95 to Sandpoint, then pick up 200 to dixon and the buffalo range then to 93 and Kalispell. better scenery than highway 2. - bobsallyhExplorer IIApprox. 30 miles east of Libby there is a construction project going on for the second year. Just west of Kalispell there is another project for about 1.2 miles. You will get dirty. We will be leaving Kalispell Tuesday for Libby, doesn't bother us. Just a heads up on those two projects.

- KJINTFExplorerMontana in the summer time =
1 - Road construction expect delays and wet tar on the road
2 - Fires - hundreds of lighting strikes last night result dozens of new fires - expect delays and smoke - The road out of Plains is smoked out - donkeydewExplorerwatch your speed in libby. every time i have been through there the is a guy either taking pictures or writing a thank you notes.
- IvylogExplorer IIII used it last week and other than a couple of short construction zones it's a good scenic route. Fuel was less expensive in Libby than Glacier.
- mowermechExplorerYes, U.S. 2 is a good route, but I would not drive it. I think the last time I did was in about 1961.
If I'm in a hurry, my preferred route is I-90 to Missoula, then U.S. 93 to Kalispell, then U.S. 2 to West Glacier.
If I am not in a hurry, my preferred route is I-90 to St. Regis, then MT 135 to MT 200, turn left towards Plains, then take MT 28 to MT 382 (one can also turn right on 200 to Perma, then take 382 North). 382 joins Hwy 93 at Big Arm on Flathead Lake.
It is a much more interesting drive than Hwy 2, IMO.
I used to live in the Flathead Valley, and drove that route many times. - Us 2 is a good two plus lanes highway. Good route for any vehicles to Glacier.
