It's amazing how much water we use

I live alone, and use less than 2000 gallons/month. That includes my personal laundry, plus what my daughter has been doing here intermittently while their house is being renovated.

The actual meter readings are only rounded to the nearest 1000 gallons, and some months my difference is only 1000 gallons. But 2000 is the minimum use charged.

So my meter readings will be Previous: 65000 Current: 66000 Usage: 2000

Go figure.

All the wells in my area have very hard water. It won't kill you but, it turns everything red.

Gee, we sure do love having our own water well and septic system! Use all the water we want and just let it run right back in the ground so someone else can use it again and so on. All our homes have a well and septic system and our main home we've kept for retirement has had the very same well for 48 years now and it still tests excellent which we have done about every 2 years. Never a water or sewage bill! Got a little over 40 years with our original drain field and then simply added a second with a diverter "Y" valve. If we were to sell our main home, the home would have to then be connected to the public water line that goes by the front of our property. As long as we own it, we are grandfathered in with our well and our 2hp irrigation well will still be legal anyway. NOT for sale!

When RV'ing, we do conserve water whether in a FHU or water and electric or electric only or dry camping. Doesn't matter if using the MH or the TT or the 5th wheel or the TC. Just a habit we got used to and it works great. Our smallest fresh water tank is 40 gal and the largest is 60 gal. Gray tanks vary from about 26 gal to 80 gal. Easily can go a min of a week before dumping any of them and often can go 2-3 weeks. Carry a 25 gal "blue lagoon" on the back of our 5th wheel for dumping without moving the 5th wheel when wintering in Florida if at a non-FHU CG or in a non-FHU CG site. Never have a problem!

We like campsites with elbow room and run from slot like small campsites. Won't have an RV that isn't truly self-contained and not enough fluids capacity for over a week min with us 2. Just learn how to use you capacities wisely. It's so easy! Our 52nd year of RV'ing.

Turn shower on pure HOT, dial back as soon as HOT comes out. Less water waste. I do this at home or in the rv.

At home, I removed the shower head, added a water shut off (from any hardware store) and replaced the shower head - that way I can turn the water off while I wait 2 minutes to condition my hair and I don't have to feel bad about wasting 2 minutes of water. Flip the level and resume the shower with no fumbling, scalding or icy water.

As a bachelor in my house I use 3000 gallons a month. That is using no conservation methods. I'm sure I could get that down if I tried.

The people probably aren't taking showers where they turn on water to get wet and turn off and the nturn on to rinse. They are also probably running water longer to get to a warm temper for a shower. Plus, they may be taking baths. A standard bath tub holds 35-50 gallons of water. One person taking a bath a day would easily be 1000-2000 gallons a month. Double that for 2 people. Older home toilets could use up to 5 gallons or so per flush. Current ones are around 1.5 gallons. How many times per day do they go to the bathroom? Lots of differences. Not to include lawn/garden watering or car washing and as you mentioned laundry. We easily do 10-15 loads a month for 3 of us. Our HE washer uses around 15-20 gallons a load. Older washers double that. A Dishwasher uses around 4 gallons a load.

Easily adds up.

Impossible to turn it off and return it to the position you want. Not so bad when it is 100degrees outside, but most of our camping is done where it iss 65 to 75 in the summer, and you use the water from the tank. We are usually hooked up and most of these campground ue cold well water, or even the public water supply is cold.
As far as home they re all single lever, I think and it is the same thing.
yes it is impossible, in my opinion to use 19,000 gallons of water, in a month.
The jacuuzis or whatever, in two of the bedrooms use probably a hundred maybe hundred fifty gallons of water. We have 98 gallon water heater.
They are not used that much.
There were eight here during my Son's wedding, but it was only a week.
I don't think the bill for 19,000 gallons was that month.
Arguing with the Guy from the water company was fruitless. They read the meter remotely now. I don't remember then. The meter is pretty deep and a two hundred feet ,or so from the house, and I haven't even attempted to read the thing.
I was scared to death we had a water leak our side of the meter.
One thing for sure I've got good springs and if I can find a water powered lift pump and find a little extra money We will have spring water ,or I will drill or just stick a pipe in the ground and have a well.

I see. In my TT you do have the valve to control temp but, it is 2 valves not one. Then to shut the water off temporarily ( or more correctly slow it to a trickle ) there is a valve on the shower head itself.

I see a lot of people on here liking the Oxegenitcs shower head (or something like that) besides using less water they like the flow of the shower head itself and I believe it has a shut off built into it.

While you're adjusting the temperature, catch the water in a bucket and use it for flushing the toilet. Don't just let it drain into the tank.

What is it with the mixers for RV showers? It is either blistering hot or freezing cold. You waste more water getting it just right than under the shower?
