Kayaking/Canoeing on the Arkansas River @ Ozark, Arkansas

We're headed back to Aux Arc Park on the Arkansas River at Ozark, Arkansas. Have been there ones and enjoyed the park. This time, we're thinking about taking our kayaks and paddling the river some while we are there. Has anyone else paddled this stretch of the river and what did you think of it? We know the locks are there and there is some barge traffic on the river but I don't believe that would be a big issue as long as we stay clear. So what do you think? Is it worth taking the yak's or are we likely to leave them on the truck?

Thanks and Happy Camping!

The river is basically a lake at the park there. This time of year you will see jet skis, water skiers and bass boats. No reason you can't do some kayaking if you like to paddle flat water. There is a great river (the Mulberry) about 20 miles north of Ozark with good whitewater but the river level is .7 today so without some rain it would be a no go as well. It needs to be at least 1.5 to kayak. Here is a link. Mulberry River (Turner Bend Store)
