KOA membership

Personally I generally like KOA's. Never have been to a horrible one.We did use one where the owner came across as a prick. But it was still level utilities worked and I wasn't looking for a relationship with the owner so it was fine!

You apparently found one of the very few limited facilities KOA's in existence. There are far more that are decent parks most with some or all full hookups. Like most private parks that try to squeeze in as many sites as possible, privacy is a rare commodity at pretty much any of them.

Do you mean 10 percent? $10 would mean the site is $100 a night. That is too much for me.

We also use KOA, Good Sam and Passport America. We easily get our investment plus back on all 3 each year. We like staying at KOA and build up points. We built up enough points last year to earn 2 "free" nights at the Bar Harbor/Oceanside KOA in Maine. I also like Passport America, however the campgrounds that accept it have a lot of restrictions. But you can always depend on Good Sam to get $10 off per night pretty much everywhere. We are heading our for a 10 week trip in June. Our first 14 days are, 5 nights in KOA's, 4 nights in Passport America campgrounds and 5 Good Sams.

We are going to be on the road for 92 days this summer, traveling about 9000 mikes. Using all available discount programs (Good Sam, KOA, and Passport America) we will be saving a considerable amount of money, based on the published rates at the RV parks we're scheduled to stop at:

Good Sam: $145 savings
KOA: $80 savings
Passport America: $212 savings

As can be seen - if you use the programs you can easily recoup the membership costs.

we stay at koas, private cgs, state parks. for us the koa membership pays for itself and then some.

When I first started RV'ING many years ago I purchased a KOA membership. I did not use it enough to recoup the purchase price. Only you would know if you will use it enough to be worthwhile. A lot of campgrounds have dropped their KOA affiliation so I would check the areas where you plan to travel to make sure it is a viable option.

KOA's generally won't stack discounts, so you need to use one or the other. Just like all other membership programs, the value is in what you get from it. If you use their parks, it's probably worth it after a few stays. Additionally, if you have multiple membership programs, it opens up more choices when picking a place especially when regular prices are comparable.

I usually look at parks with similar amenities and conveniences while traveling and if there are a couple similarly situated but I get a bigger discount at one over the other, I may let price be the deciding factor.
