Laminate flooring with flat floor slide

I want to remove the carpet and replace it with laminate flooring. With a flat floor slide how can I cover or transition over the metal with out putting new carpet in the slide portion with the lip that covers the metal. Thanks for any assistance. 02 35' Southwind
