Lincoln mkx 2016

The owners manual for the 2016 lincoln MKX states that the vehicle can be flat towed four down. IT CAN NOT BE TOWED. 8 days with the dealer and Lincoln tech support finally determined any 2016 MKX is not towable. The dealer refunded all the costs and took the car back after the regional rep told us no tow. The manual is wrong. Thank you to Norm Reeves Lincoln for being so professional.

I've seen that evidence too, but when a Lincoln salesman who makes his living on commission tells me it is not towable, that shatters my confidence. I don't want to invest 50 grand in this car with crossed fingers.

I'm seeing evidence that it's a suitable toad. And, even with the Ecoboost engine. I do see that BlueOx has a limitation on their baseplate that seems to preclude Adaptive Cruise Control.

Owners Manual says yes. Dealer told me no. Poster above says not with Eco engine. I want the Eco Engine. I'm not buying unless and until there are online people reporting sucess over a period of time. It is just too confusing.

A definitive confirming statement from Lincoln would be a big help here. Does anybody here know someone in Lincoln management?

This model is 4-wheel towable. There's even an instruction in the manual how to switch to 4-wheel tow mode. Some of the older model appeared as if it wasn't because earlier build needed some software update. 2016 MKX is 4-wheel towable, period. Check out the following:

I'm looking at the MKX right now as a toad. This is troubling. The new FMCA toad guide out this week lists it as flat towable.

I used the live chat feature on lincoln.com and spoke to Dee. She had me 'on hold" for quite awhile as she had it checked out and my VIN# to be exact on production date, etc. It amazes me reading different forums on the internet at how many dealers and reps are giving conflicting info. Blue Ox makes a base plate for only 3 2016 lincoln makes....and you'd think they wouldn't if it weren't able to be towed. It's also listed on several tow guides, who do their homework as well to list what cars are in fact towable 4 down.

The dealers give contradictory information and there is just no way to know the truth without getting it directly from Lincoln. Can you provide a way for me to contact your person at Lincoln?

I bought an MKX recently to tow after doing much research and speaking online to lincoln reps numerous times. Here is a new message I got TODAY using my specific VIN # that was built in July. THEY CAN BE TOWED 4 DOWN!!! I've personally put mine in the "stay neutral" mode and it works...apparently my dealer updated the software as I can do exactly what she says I should do on my touch screen. Now to order the base plate and have it welded is next...

Here's lincoln's response today:

It seems your vehicle was built 07/17/2015 prior to the changes to allow the tow. You can still be flat towed, but require a software update to perform the selections as described in the owner manual (preferred method). Because your vehicle was build prior to 09/17/15 it may not have the ability to enable/disable the neutral tow function in the vehicle settings menu of the instrument cluster message center. The vehicle can be flat towed by following these steps: 1. Key the car on, 2. Shift to neutral, 3. Cluster will display a popup stating “Press N again to lock in neutral mode”, 4. Press N again, 5. Shut vehicle off, This will lock the car into neutral with the vehicle turned off, for towing purposes. Please see the dealership for the necessary updates needed.

I went to the Lincoln dealer and took a demo ride of the 2016 MKX. I then asked the salesman to demostrate how to prepare the car for towing. The salesman went in to the manager and came out and told me that they just got word that the 2016 MKX CANNOT BE FLAT TOWED. Wherupon I walked out.

End of story.

2016 Edge is towable as well in both 3.5L and 2.7 Eco in both FWD and AWD. Are you SURE the 2016 MKX is not towable? Has anyone actually had issues towing it, or are we talking all theories?

I went to my Lincoln dealer and showed them the original post in this thread and asked them to get me something in writing saying towing a 2016 MKX is authorized. They came back to me with the Ford Fleet Towing Guide, which clearly shows on p. 11 that the 2016 MKX can be towed 4 down. So that makes the owner's manual AND the towing guide which say thumbs up. Should I trust this?

Wow, we don't know what to do now. We have a new 2015 Jeep Cherokee that we bought to tow. We just had our first experience with the "death wobble" while towing where the Jeep wobbled so violently that it shook the 40 ft. class A RV! We're in contact with a group were several members have had multiple wobble experiences and can't get Chrysler to help. We were going to check out the MKX tomorrow and take a loss when we dump the Jeep. Thanks for the posting, I think we're shopping for an used Saturn!

I just had an online chat with a Lincoln advisor who told me that 2016 MKX is towable.
