Little Red Campfire

Got my little red campfire in today. For those who may have considered getting it, amazon has it for $92 now.

The instructions don't really say much about setup. I noticed that besides the logs that there is another round ceramic piece that goes underneath the logs. On one side it has circular grooves and on the other side it's a more natural rough looking surface. Anyone have an idea which way it goes?

My brother has a little red campfire, he ended up replacing the fake logs with lava rock; seems to put out more heat that way.

I got this one instead.
It's a bit larger diameter, although not quite as tall. It puts out an amazing amount of heat once the rocks get heated up. The only downside is the lack of a hard lid like the little red guy, but it does have a carrying bag that is fairly sturdy. I prefer a real campfire, but this thing is invaluable when a wood fire is not allowed or convenient.

I really like real campfires. I enjoy the smell of the fire. But if you are traveling from state to state or even from one county to another, you will come across the issue of not supposed to bring firewood due to the bugs. And sometimes it's hard to find wood for sale or expensive for the little bundle you might get. Also, depending on your set up, it might not be convenient to bring firewood with you. The more and more I think about it, this is a nice little setup to have in your arsenal.

Cool! Now I know I did it right!

I race motorcycles (road race track, not dirt), and 95% of my "camping" is at a race track with concrete everywhere. I always get the looks and stares when I crank up a "campfire" - people rush over to see if I actually set up a few logs on the concrete or what the heck I'm doing! Usually I'm the only person there with a campfire and it makes for a great gathering spot for socializing in the evening. And when we're done...turn it off!

Mine came UPS today. We meet my sister and brother in law every year from Xmas to New Year at some campground in FL. My sister and I both have breathing problems and can't hang around a fire very long. This little thing will allow us to enjoy sitting around the "campfire" and still be able to breathe!

They can be modified... I use the Campfire-in-a-Can version and modified it to use the RV's quick connect system. I also kept the regulator and put quick connects on it so that I can, if I want to, snap the regulator back on it and use the tanks ( I do that if I want to take it off-site ). I have a 20' hose, 2 10' hoses and a 4' hose along with a quick connect "T". Using the "T", I can have both the campfire and grill hooked up simultaneously.
My 2 cents, your mileage may vary...

Ok to answer some of the questions here. Mine came with the one piece log set. You can use the 1lb propane bottles but you need the special connector. They also sell a cooktop ou can put on top of it to set a pan or coffee pot on.

I received a response from Camco this morning. The round piece goes grooves down/rough side up. They were forwarding my email to the engineers to update the instructions with it.

The reason I asked was because I found nothing online that old which way. I did see a video of a guy unblocking his and he had the grooves up. I guess he thought that since that was the way it came in the box, that it's ow it was supposed to go. Again, noting in the instructions about it. I just assumed grooves down fro looking at how it was made.

And for $92, what a great deal. I need to get that cool top. Probably never use it, but oh well.

DW gave me the little red can a couple years ago for Christmas! It's wonderful, the minute you want a fire, it's going. Suddenly you need to shut it down and go somewhere, it's out and nothing to worry about! The gift should've been for my wife cause she can't take the smoke and I don't smell of smoke when I come in!

We bought a Fire Dancer as I thought they were more attractive. Problem with all these is out in the open air in a breeze they dont work so well. Cant remember being out in the open where we had not had some kind of breeze. So I use ours in our partially enclosed patio. Be surprised how much heat they generate under the patio reef.
