Little Red Campfire

Got my little red campfire in today. For those who may have considered getting it, amazon has it for $92 now.

The instructions don't really say much about setup. I noticed that besides the logs that there is another round ceramic piece that goes underneath the logs. On one side it has circular grooves and on the other side it's a more natural rough looking surface. Anyone have an idea which way it goes?

Do you use the 1lb propane tanks or the larger ones?

I'm wondering how long a 1lb would last.
Mine isn't set-up to use a 1 pound tank. I don't know if any of them are. It comes with a hose attached to it that you unwind and use with a bigger tank. The hose has a regulator and shut-off valve on it.

I've been thinking about something like that for a while. I know the DGKs would freak(they are both in Scouts and the DGS is like most little boys, a pyromaniac) but sometimes I just don't want to mess with the end of the campfire. You know what I mean, douse, stir, douse, feel, douse some more. I do like cooking with the DGKs over an open fire, but, then there's the douse, stir..., again.

I'm not too sure about using it at site 28 at Walmart, I find that site to be a bit too windy, site 46 is further away from the highway and well sheltered from the wind. I think I'll drop by the RV supply store later this week and look at them. Maybe I could buy it for my wife, you know, a Christmas present.

I have read that some are being delivered with a one piece logset and others have individual logs. Which do you all have?

It seems that the one piece logset would be better and more durable.

We're happy with ours. We've used it quite a bit and found that it adds just the right ambiance to the campsite. I wrote a review of it here.

I use a different propane fire but options are nice.

now in a CG, if I'm going to build a fire, in a fire ring, I use wood. (Alas, i do not do that so much since wife died)

But if I'm in a place where that might be a problem I have two choicoes. One is a "Pit-2-go" I got back in 2006 or 2007, this is a heavy duty steel box (Square shape) with a fire tray and grids for cooking also a spark arrestor screen (could be a bit bigger) you can set it up on a grassy space and it will not kill the grass (Tested it I did).

Option 2 is a propane fire.. Not the little red but an equivalent product.

I've used the Pit when I wanted a genuine wood fire for assorted things and the propane one when I need quick and again, no damage to the grass.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

Thanks guys. I never knew anything like this existed. It looks like there's a few different brands out there but nothing nearly as affordable as the little red campfire. thanks for the tip

I've heard a 1 lb tank will last about 2 hrs on medium flame but haven't actually tested it. You have to have a special propane adapter to make it fit a small tank and it's $30, not willing to spend that so I just use a regular tank. My wife made fun of it at first but now she likes it and it's a great conversation starter. Plus I enjoy watching others struggle to build a fire and get it going while I simply turn a valve and light it up

Love ours. We've had it going on about 4 or 5 years now. I love a campfire but if it's raining out it's nice to have it where we can move it around. During some of the burn bans you can use it (check first) and used it an open utility trailer in the snow and rain. I just used a normal BBQ tank with ours. Used it at home on our deck too.

I put mine groove down, figured it would channel the propane better. Works fine. Neat little item.

That's what I figured. I saw a youtube video and the guy had the grooves upward. I would think that the stone look on the other side would be better represented upward, otherwise it could just be smooth. When I received it, it was in bubble wrap and the grooves were up and the instructions did not indicate either way. I emailed Camco also, will see what they say as well.
