Looking for a place to go next month early around the weekend of the 9th. I know its close. We will be hauling motorcycles in the T.H. and looking for some nice scenery. I would like to stay as close to the southwestern part of the state as possible for gas/time (im from rochester)but will go out of the way for a better site.
The Adirondacks certainly isn't in the south west part of NY state :h ... if you're looking for scenery you can't beat Ives Run just outside Tioga, PA which is 125 miles directly south of Rochester. It's a well run COE campground located near The Grand Canyon of the East which is especially gorgeous in fall as the leaves begin to turn. :B
That's what I was thinking but maybe the OP means SW of HIS locale.

Never been there, but maybe Lake George RV Park? - mboppExplorerNever been there, but maybe Lake George RV Park?
- camp-n-familyExplorerLetchworth is a beautiful SP, we were there this summer, but it is nearer to the finger lakes region, not the Adirondacks.
- SparkDrExplorerGeography seems to be the first obstacle in pursuit of your goal. The Adirondacks are in the northeastern portion on NY. Your desire to camp in the southwestern part of the state eliminates the Adirondacks from contention. However, +1 on the Old Forge suggestion. We're looking at that same area and timeframe for our last trip before the campgrounds close after Columbus Day. Fall colors will have likely already passed by then, but it is still beautiful nonetheless.
- WingnExplorerLetchworth State Park, is a beautiful and great place to visit. The Old Forge area would be nice that time of year.
- Dutch_12078Explorer IINot the Adirondacks, but take a look at Letchworth State Park near Castile, NY. The campground has 8 different loops with electric only sites. The park road along the Genesee River valley would make for a fun ride, with stops at the various overlooks along the way to see the "Grand Canyon of the East". We just left there, and our only complaint was that our site was far enough off level that it took several boards under our rear wheels and jacks to get level.
