While I agree that it's good to protect construction workers - scaring the daylights out of an inattentive driver might not be a smart thing to do....

That device is a Military weapon designed to scramble the brains of the enemy and large rioting mobs. ie; prison riots, protesters,etc.

(After to many years of loud farm equipment I couldn't hear the dammed thing if it went off right inside my car)

We had a rollover just west of Detroit, Nice expensive sports car, She was flying down the road and somehow hit the shoulder.. Flipped it rather well, Shes hanging there upside down by her seat belt which the medics had to cut to get her to the hospital.

This was back before hand held Cell Phones... They had to cut the handset cord too, she would not let go of it and stop talking... LITERALLY To save her life.

Don't you know that there too busy texting while driving too pay attention to some emergency vehicle. :h My Highway Patrol Buddy told me about a time a few years ago that he responded too an accident involving a woman driving down I 70 just outside of Kansas City and she rear ended a semi in a construction zone. He was the first on the scene and she was up against the windshield. They found out that she was talking on the cell phone holding it up against her ear and putting makeup on and driving at the same time. OMG what some people do while driving. Well needless to say she isn't doing any of the above any longer.

I'm all in favor of your idea with one caveat, we give the exact same treatment to anyone that drives under the speed limit in anything but the right lane.

I too would support the same treatment for someone driving under the speed limit on any lane where they can, and that includes the right lane… but remember limited access, multi-lane highways have a range of legal speeds that applies to all lanes, and a keep right except to pass laws to keep slower legal speeds to the right lane… all are equally important to enforce for the smooth flow of traffic…

But the intent of thread is for those violating the maximum speed in work zone putting workers at extreme risk in preforming their duties without having to look behind their back all day as one of their normal duties…
From my own experience working alongside traffic almost all accidents of this type result from one driver vastly exceeding the work zone speed limit, not paying attention and having to brake quickly to slow down for another who is observing the work zone limit…

But... If it slows them down and prevents the sending of a teletype that starts with "Reference Fatal Accident number ##-####-## I am all for it.

I have typed way too many of those messages in my time as a dispatcher.

Guess they are changing from the "show me state" to the "hear me state". I agree with another poster above this will be a very costly mistake for the state.
