lost kitten in Yellowstone - time sensitive

I decided to put this in the general issues forum instead of pets, so it might reach more people. A Yellowstone-focused group I'm in on Facebook just posted that someone in the Lake area of Yellowstone found a black & white kitten - described as only a few months old, with a collar and bell but no tags - near a pulloff area. They are caring for the kitten until Saturday (June 14), when the kitten will be turned over to the Dillon MT shelter. No idea who the owner is - speculation is that the cat came from the employees' RV park, or else someone visiting the park who may have stopped for a picture & the cat snuck out.
  • Kind of doubt if whoever lost the kitten will contact Dillon MT folks as that's a long way from Yellowstone Lake. Has anyone made contact with the NPS folks, they maybe have a hotline system or something to advertise lost and found. Am glad that they rescued the kitten though as coyotes, etc would have made a quick meal of it come nightfall.
  • Yikes! Glad somebody did the right thing. Little fella probably wouldn't have had much of a chance on its own.
  • Yes, NPS has been contacted. So far, apparently, the owners haven't made a claim. Possibly they don't even know when or where the cat got out. Sad for them, but hopefully the kitten will have a happy end to his/her story. Better than being eaten by a coyote, anyway!
  • Reminded me of out cat situation. We have one from SC, northern IL, Southern IL, and one feral barn cat.
  • I'll just add to this thread as a reminder that it is situations just like this why it is 'imperative' that all RV'ers that travel with pets have them micro chipped.

Hope your posting this info on an RV forum helps this cat find his owners.

Cats are abit different than dogs... When we lost ours we looked and looked and finally saw it under a bush just staring at us - probably wondering what all the hype is about... geesch..

A lost dog will come running up to someone they know...

  • Our cat has the microchip, our dog does not. He does however have a tag with our cell numbers on it. You should not have your home phone number on your pet's tag. If you are on vacation then there is a good chance that nobody will be home to answer the phone. Unless of course the person burglarizing your home is nice enough to answer the phone and take a message.
  • probably dumped. even with a collar and seems like a pet, not everyone might want it in the house.

I hope it finds a great new home :)
  • It would seem to me that not only should pets be micro-chipped but leashed as well.
As for putting a home number on a collar I concur that it seems unwise for several scenarios. I'd rather a cell or vet's office number even if I had to pay for the use.
Unless I planned to fulltime I'd never take a pet on a vacation. JMHO.

Hey Sea Dog, Chill The burglary part was a joke. Also you need to reread what I said.

Ok, I got it that time.
