Michelin LTX M/S tread seperation

Had a Michelin LTX M/S throw the tread off on our TV. Took out the side of the truck, fender skirt and tail pipe. Tire was only 3 1/2 years old, about 25,000 miles. I had noticed all 4 tires had lots of spider cracks on sidewall and tread sides looked dry rotted a bit. Truck does sit for 1 to 2 weeks at a time in AZ desert sun but similar tires on my other 2 vehicles without issue.

I've used these tires for years without ever having an issue. Michelin does have a recall on the LTX M/S but not for our tire size, 265/70R17.

Anyone have a loss of tread on an LTX M/S low mileage tire thats not on their recall list?
  • We had a 3 1/2 year old 25,000 mile Commercial T/A size not on the recall list throw the tread off on our fiver.
  • Three years ago I put a brand new set of Michelins with 3 month old DOT codes on our former motor home. I took good car of them and kept them covered. 18 months later they all had sidewall cracks and one had tread separation. Michelin would do nothing about it. I ended up throwing them away and bought new tires from a different manufacturer.
  • I had the same size on my last truck. 4 years and 50,000 miles later they had plenty of cracks on the side walls. To the point where replacement was necessary. Too bad as they had lots of tread left, but not worth the money for Michelins.
  • I lost all 4 when I sold them and put 19.5 on the truck ;) All kidding aside the only report I have heard was a recent fifth wheel owner who lost one on his trailer.
