Mid- to late-90's Brave or Sunrise (Itasca) 29RQ CCC

Hi
First, I'm trying to determine the CCC for the mid- to late-90s Win. Brave 29RQ, or its clone, the Itasca Sunrise 29RQ. Winnebago's archives give the GVWR, but no CCC or UVW. I did find a sale listing showing ~#3100. That seems possible for a small class A, particularly with the heavier Ford chassis.
I had pretty much decided on a Safari Trek, but they're short on CCC, and have some interesting handling issues (interesting as in the Chinese curse).
Second, in the twin bed configuration, I'd like to know whether one bed could be removed. I can't see how I could comfortably sleep in both at the same time, so I
thought to make other use of the space. Hopefully they don't both have tanks or outside storage compartments underneath.
Any general advice outside these topics would also be welcome.
  • This should have gone in the Class A forum. I should get some sleep.
  • Re Ford transmission problems; I still have my '93 1T diesel cube van I used for work. The electronic transmission always acted up, apparently due to a faulty speedometer module, a common problem. The age of the van doesn't warrant repair, which I use primarily as storage. The speedo jumps around, meaning the poor transmission doesn't know what to do and flares, causing damage over time. That may be the cause of the early '90s problems you mention. Ford quit making the speedometer part in question, so it's a scramble to repair it. As to late '90s...??
I mentioned the Ford chassis as it is 15200#. Chev is 14800#.
I'm aware that an older rig will have to be gone over with a fine-tooth comb by a qualified tech.
I'm not well-informed about the quality of Winnebagos. Mass-produced, so a lot likely hinges on QC. The fact they survived the melt-down means something, although that could be nothing more than deep pockets. Lots of rigs available, and affordable.
  • The early and late 1990's Ford had transmission problems as Chevy did not. A change to 4 speed over drive occurred in late 1990's as did the cooler running 454 Vortec. Dealer cost for Chevy chassy was about $1500 more than Ford due to the better design. Just remember it's the condition of the unit as a whole that yields value as big cost can be incurred if things like the roof need repair. That's around $4700 alone. not to mention tires, brakes etc.
