Hi all.How many have had mold in their fridge. Yes, a lot of campers come with the latch that will leave it partially open, but I had another idea that i am going to test out this summer.I am getting some of theseClick here...and dropping them into the fridge.For the cost, it is a cheap insurance policy.I am actually going to keep my fridge closed and see how it works....Again, I know that there are many different ways to stop your fridge from molding, but for cost and ease of use, i am going to try this...

Seems to me the easiest and cheapest way is to keep the fridge open. If those don't work you're stuck cleaning mold again. Why take the chance? Why not just keep the fridge door open? I just throw a couple towels over the top edge of the doors at the corners so they can't close. Tough to get much easier than that. :)

I gotta ask - why not just leave the door open?Desiccant does work. At the telephone company we bought the bags in sealed gallon cans. The techs would put in it equipment in high moisture areas. Depending on the amount of moisture, they changed the bags from monthly to yearly.Be sure you keep any unused bags in a tightly sealed bag or they'll pick up moisture before you ever use them.Bill

Why not just leave the door open is a good question. I guess to be honest, I am just curious. I am getting these because they are useful for a lot of reasons (I think we have all heard the wet cell phone in rice trick, well these are better than rice for that). So, just curious, finding new ways, wasting my time....For one thing, at least I can see that keeping the door close would keep critters from getting in if they ever got into your camper (my wife would never use it again if a mouse got in there).

I`ve never had mold in my fridge, neither has anyone else that leaves their fridge open. Sounds like you know how to keep it from happening, but wont do it!

When we get home, refer gets emptied and turned off, place a folded kitchen towel between the freezer to keep both doors ajar.

Also don't forget that if you don't block the drain line there will be fresh moisture laden air accessible.

How dirty do you leave your fridge that mice will invade the fridge? If your wife won't use your fridge, will that mean there is much more room for beer?

The information is out there, all you have to do is let it in.

I agree seems like this is a solution looking for a problem that in reality doesn't exist.

Just leave the door ajar to eliminate 100% the potential for mold and odors instead of rolling the dice and taking your chance on something unproven.

If you're going to use the silicon jell, make sure you get enough. We have a safe that's less than 1/4 the size of a Norcold 1200 and use a half pound jell box that has to be reheated to drive off the moisture 4-5 times a year. The safe is TIGHT, I'd guess tighter than a Norcold and is not in a damp area.
