My Soda Crate Dilemma - Resolution

THANK YOU ALL!
VERY sincerely, I thank you all (most of you anyway) for making the thread about my soda crate dilemma such a fun read.

Scrounge that I am I was sure I could make use of it for something. Then the dilemma hit.

Even before posting the question I'd emailed the OKC Pepsi Distributor. Pepsi's response? Apparently they didn't think it was worth responding - twice. I then emailed customer service at Pepsi National. They told me to contact the local distributor...

So, as I learned in the Army, no response is concurrence. We now have what looks like will be a strong & durable 1st step for the RV. And no guilt or 2d thoughts about it.
  • I use my crate to store my sewer hose. Since it has multiple holes on the sides and the bottom, it allows the excess water to drip out. I carry the hose inside the crate in a side compartment. The crate also allows the hose to breathe.
  • I'm going to be on the lookout for a few of those "lost" soda crates now. Is yours the ones used for 6 packs of bottles or the ones for 2 liter bottles? Since they stack nice I could make a set of light weight steps.

Have you ever fallen off a soda/milk crate? they will roll like a ball when you put your weight toward the edge!

I think your better off just tossing it back on the side of the road.

The soda crates I've seen are about four or five inches tall, maybe two feet wide, and eighteen inches deep. They are not approximately cube-shaped like milk crates and would be a good bit less tippy.

(With their dimensions, it's also hard to see how the nifty Harbor Freight folding step platform would be a reasonable replacement; it's a whole lot taller, and trimming the legs down sufficiently to be about the same would seem to make them too stubby to be operable.)

  • LOL! You made the attempt and that's all that matters.
  • WAIT!!!!!
I recently lost my Personal Pepsi Crate on I-35. Will you hold it for me???
  • I remember your original post and all the comments everyone made. Everyone was all over the gauntlet with suggestions what you should do, and other's should do, even if they found a McDonald's cup on the ground? (If I remember right).

Glad you finally found your resolution. You can sleep at night with yourself, and that's the most important thing! Be true to yourself, someone told me years ago.

Enjoy the crate, and happy camping!
  • Hi I made my own step that I use under my tt steps and I made it 2x6 and 2x4 and I made it as wide as the door and deep and it's safe and easy to store.

Congratulations on trying to make it right, not many folks would bother so kudos to you for going the extra mile!

Now, on the other hand, I work in a highly safety oriented company and my inner safety guy is thinking that standing on a device that was not specifically designed to be standing on is an accident waiting to happen..

Folks at my company HAVE gotten severely hurt stepping THROUGH bad wood and plastic skids and because of that our safety team frowns upon doing so..

I vaguely recall seeing your previous post about this plastic crate.. But I can't remember the size of it but I would really recommend seeking out a fold up step stool which has been specifically designed for walking on..

Then use the plastic crate for carrying things as it was intended..

I would recommend a Harbor Freight step stool, bought one a couple of years ago and love the thing.. Have even been using it in to even load big heavy firewood rounds into the back of my truck!

    Folds like this..

and is often on sale for $19 and may be able to get it cheaper with a 20% off coupon..
