Older Carefree Awning handle and parts needed

I am having problems finding the parts for my older Carefree Spirit awning. First the pins in the handles do not pull back far enough to allow the arms to move up or down. I have looked for replacement handle but the ones I find do not look like the old ones. Mine have two small pop-rib-bits below the handle. New ones look like they use on pop-rib-bit. Also I am missing what ever holds the roller lock lever to the remote lock stirrup. It is missing when I bought the rig, so I do not know what it looks like. Does anyone know where I can find the parts. Thanks
  • I have fixed the two problems I was having. The first problem was fixed by the push nut I bought at Lowes. Second I replaced the two handles. I found that the online sellers didn't let it be know that the new one pop rib-bit will replace the older two pop-rib-bit model. Went to the dealer today and just read the back of the package. It explained it. So I bought them. Thanks All
  • Buster... here's some additional pictures. I've removed the end cap and spring to accommodate the 'Pioneer Upgrade Kit'. The kit basically removes the springs and turns the awning into a manual crank up awning.... I got tired of replacing broken roller springs and this is much easier. Anyway... here are the additional pictures.

    This is the end cap:

    This is the top of awning support and roller tube with the lock doohickey folded back a bit.. that's what attached to the locking lever:

    And this the back side with the slide bar:

    Hope that helps.

    FWIW, I'll be tossing the old end caps and springs... and could also remove the lock/unlock bar and doohickey if anyone could use them for the price of shipping.
  • I went to Lowes and bought a what is called a 1/4 inch push nut. That I used to hold the cable on to the arm. As for the pin. I loosen up the pin and lubed it. They move freely, but I need to use a screw driver to push the back far enough. I see that the pin cannot move back any farther because the spring stops it. To me something is missing. Nothing pulls the pin back, and the lever doesn't move far enough too. Yet, everything is free to move.
  • Try lubing up the pins and working them in and out a bit, maybe they will free up. Mine stick a bit occasionally but a little lube gets them working just fine.

    My awning lock piece was missing when we bought our coach. I have been usuing the end of the pull rod to release the lever. At the Tampa RV show the Carefree rep said the cable would work. I bought one but no way I can see to make it work. If you find anything that works drop me a note.

    Greg thanks for the picture. I wondered what it was supposed to look like.

    Good luck
  • Thanks For the help. Liveneasy, can you show me the other side of the second picture. That is the side that has the part I need to see. Is the replacement handle different then the old handle? The handle I need to replace is the handle on the side and is used to extend the awning. The pin does not pull back far enough to allow the arm to move.

    Thanks

    The awning lock on my 1996 vintage Spirit awning is controlled by a sliding flat piece of metal that runs inside the upper awning support arm. See the included photos;

    I don't know where you could get the parts, but I've had good luck getting parts at Amazon. If you have any questions you might want to drop the customer service people at Carefree an email. They have been very responsive and helpful to my questions about my Spirit awning.

    Handles now only have one pop rivet. There is a pin on the handle to take the place of the second pop rivet.
