One wheel and tire are hot

So I just got my TT serviced, and the brakes were apparently fine. I also greased the bearings. I put new tires on too.

While towing today (second short trip of the year, I thought that the driver's side tire was ever so slightly wobbling, because I could see the change in rotation while driving (through side mirror). I am a paranoid person, so I thought that maybe I was imagining things.

Just to be safe, I felt the tire and outside of the bearing. It was hot for a 30 min drive. As well, I compared to the other side, and it wasn't even close to the same temperature.

I hate to have to bring it in for service again, but I don't think this is safe. What's going on here? I got the tires done at a different place than the rest of the service, so I'm not sure who I should go back to for repairs (if needed). I would rather not pay for something that I JUST paid to get done. Which is more likely the issue? tires? bearings? brakes? I don't get it.

Thanks

If you used the easy-lube zerks on the end of the axles then the wheel may be warm because there's grease on the brakes.

Had that happen on a Jayfeather we used to own. I always check brakes and wheels for heat whenever I stop. All the bearings and brakes had been fine and well maintained. Then one day while on a long haul I pulled into a rest area and one wheel was warm- or more accurately put HOT!

I limped at very slow speeds 50 miles down the road and was able to get to a Camping World shop. They pulled the wheel and the brake shoe lining had completely shattered and lining material was wedging between the shoe frame and the wheel drum. Needless to say we found we then had the opportunity to install a new set of shoes and drums! Even though the old set was in pretty good shape we changed all the backing plates and brake assemblies on the rig. Never could figure why the shoe lining hung, but it all worked out OK.

A "slight wobble" can actually be an illusion due to a color change on the tire from dirt, mud, scuff mark, etc.
And as far as one side being hotter than the other. Was the hotter side consistently on the sunny side? The sunny side tire may run 10-15 degrees hotter than a tire on the shady side. By my TPMS my shady side tires run barely above the air temp whereas the sunny side tires run quite a bit higher.
Not saying it may not be the bearing. Just something else to consider.

No sun today but i don't think this could be due to sun anyway...Was an extreme difference

I assume you checked the log nuts. If not, start there as they should be retorqued after having driven 50 miles or so anyway.

Almost sounds like your lug nuts are loose.

if you saw the " wheel wobble "........and that side.... is significantly hotter than the other side ,then it sounds like your bearings were not done properly or are loose.

If you're not capable of doing this yourself then find a reputable place and have it checked.

I have no idea how to do this. It wasn't so hot I couldn't touch it, but it was probably similar to a cup of coffee when you hold it.. I dunno, that's the best comparison I can think of. The other side had no temperature at all. The wobble was barely noticeable, but def visible in my opinion.

Sounds like I should bring it to the RV dealership where I got the bearings and brakes done

Unless something happened or broke........ it sounds like you should not have gone to that place in the first place .....Yikes...!!!!......:E

But since you did ,take it back there and have them check it and see what happened....since this was supposed to be done by someone in the know ....please let us know how this turns out....:W

From your description, I would say you have an improper bearing adjustment. I would take it back to that guy. If you have the ability to get that wheel up off the ground, grab the tire at 9 and 3 o'clock and wiggle the tire back and forth and side to side feeling for excessive bearing play. That should give you an idea of the bearing adjustment.

I could probably try this later. I'll just use my car jack and get it a little bit off the ground to try. I'm about to head out for a bit, but I'll try this later if you guys think this is helpful. But regardless, I need to bring it to get repaired anyway since I don't know how to do it.

IF you don't know how to do brakes/bearings etc. take it back to the place that serviced the brakes.
You have a bad bearing, blown grease seal or brake shoes dragging excessively.

Noticeable tire wobble........suspect bad bearing
Is it time for your medication or mine?

You most likely did not properly tighten the bearing-race for that wheel. It sounds like it is too tight. Or that you possibly flat-sided some of the bearings in that race. If the heat is felt in the hub it is the bearing-race and not the brakes.
