Although I technically can get into some gas stations when towing, I personally prefer using truck stops since it's just easier, plus you don't have to deal with someone parking their mini van in front of the only diesel pump for 20 minutes while they are inside on a shopping spree.My only complaint about the truck stops is that for some reason most of the ones I've been to don't take personal credit cards at the pump. So I'm stuck going in, waiting in line to hand them my card, go out to pump the fuel, and finally go back in to pay, all the while holding up the truckers who I'm sure are eager to be on their way. Any solutions that you know of? Are Pilot/FlyingJ locations usually the same or is there an option for non commercial operators to get a card that does work at the pumps? Just curious what others do when stopping for fuel. As always, thanks for the advice!

Some truck stops have RV lanes with credit card accepting pumps. Normally I fill up at the larger service stations you see along the highways and haven't run into having to wait for the mini-van shopper. I've only filled up at one truck stop using the trucker pumps, I was able to use my credit card at the pump.Most of the time I fill up when I'm unhitched from my 5th wheel; fill up the day before we leave or right after we arrive. Most trips we take require less than one tank to get to our destination. So it's just easier to fill up once we unhitch.

I use the Flying J card and pay at the pump. It is available to all. Savings at the pump also. If you half to go inside to use your credit card it is just part of the drill. Once full, just pull up so the next vehicle can get in as you settle up.

I have dual tanks which requires using truck pumps to get 100% full. I know the drill and I just do it, otherwise it's dodge the cars and get pissed at the shoppers blocking the diesel pumps and not get full tanks.I tried using Pacific Pride, which are a (national?) chain of truck fueling stops. That worked sometimes, but their technology is aging and they aren't that easy to find. Their smartphone app doesn't work well and GPS couldn't find many of them. I never knew what I was paying until the email bill arrived - and that didn't work too well either. A couple times I never got one, then the next one showed I had an overdue balance, and then they finally gave up and said "we're not email billing any more...this just isn't working." I do not know how their other customers are billed..paper I guess. Ain't gonna happen with me.I avoid Pilot and the J simply because that's where everyone goes, meaning they're always crowded and busy. I'll pay more out of town just for the convenience, and cleaner pump islands. I hate walking in diesel fuel sludge and then having to wipe my feet before getting back in the cab. I prefer having my fuel in the tank, not on my floors.Be very careful with those truck island nozzles, or you'll be taking a bath in diesel fuel.

I can use the OEM tank down below the 1/4 mark without stopping for fuel if I want to, which I would never do if it was my only tank.

This arrangement has worked just dandy for the 2 years I've been using it.

I hate truck stops, I'm always pick up diesel fuel on my shoes and hands, pay more than at private gas stations, and play the "pay inside dance".

Yeas, as one mentioned, you get a bill once a month. I have the bill deducted from my bank account. Done. Good records also.

Have the same problem only ours is because the CC is not a US based card.

Simple enough solution. The DW goes inside, credit card & walkie talkie in hand, gets authorisation, tells me, goes store wandering while I fill, call her when finished filling.

Those little radios are good for all kinds of short range uses not just parking assistance.

We have the PilotFlying J card. We have the 2,000 limit because we have it taken out of our account when do. We get 7 cents off the gas price,

nope. FJ will accept your credit card at the pump but there may be a limit on the amount of gas ($) imposed by the credit card issuer. we use the Pilot Flying J Plus RV Card. $.05 per gallon off posted price and no limit on the amount of fuel you can pump at one time. this is a charge card, not a credit card. balances must be paid in full at the end of the month. there are all sorts of discount card programs out there. do a little research and select the one best for you.

I fulltime, pull a fiver, and don't mess with truck stops. I decided long ago that I didn't want to walk around in all the fuel that gets spilled on the ground, didn't want to use those high volume nozzles, and didn't want to make multiple trips in and out just to pay. And Loves/Flying J are usually the most expensive places around.
