Using the GVWR that gives you 1460#/1480# range to load in the truck, that is less than 3/4 ton. I think I can get that much weight in the average car with 5 or 6 people & the trunk loaded with groceries from the store or suit cases for vacation....
You just figured it out and don't even think you did.
It's ridiculous to think a 3/4 ton can only haul 3/4 ton. 100% by your logic above. You don't even need to be that well read on trucks to understand it.
But the fun part is there is a certain group of folks on here who would swear on a stack of bibles, just becasue GM or whoever puts a sticker on the truck saying so, that it is in fact, fact.
