question about buy local service loxal?

I think this question belongs here if not moderaters please relocate it,i understand why one is supposed to buy local and service it local but in our case we are strongly considering either buying it at r vw in ohio or at possibly shipsawana rv arond the corner from where the columbus palamino 5th wheel is made but has anyone bought in one state and live a distance away and how do you get it serviced and is it easy or dificult to get it serviced?thanks.

We bought ours out of state. Got a 1 year old left-over for $10,000 less than the best deal we could work in our state. Our "local" dealer would not do warranty work. It cost us $300 dollars to pull it out to the factory in Indiana for warranty work and they delivered it back to us free. I can make a lot more trips to Indiana and still be way ahead in cost to me.

I have since found a local RV shop that does do pre-approved warranty work.

brought it home and the manufacturer found us local dealers willing to do warranty work.

only issue was being at back of the line. just dropped it off in the winter and things were fixed by the spring. and i got free storage.

For us. the only draw back about buying out of state. Is getting the tag, and registration. We bought our current TT in SC, and we live in NC. It was a real pain to get all the paperwork done to pay the property tax, and get a tag. Buy in state, and all you do is mover the tag to the new TT. NOT so when bought out of state.

I live about 3 miles from the dealer where I bought my 'C'. All service is performed there. And they'll make appointments.

It all depends on your local dealers if you'll get your rig worked on if you purchased it out of the area. No one can tell you. Our local dealer is fine to work with and did some warranty work, even though we bought our toyhauler 800 miles away.

I worked with a mobile rv service once, and was totally unimpressed. The guy they sent out was awful, looked like they swept him out of the bar that morning with the sawdust. The service had good reviews, but I wouldn't call them again on a bet.

bought three out of state, I think its best to call a mobil rv repair man, heres why, it won,t sit for a month on a dealers lot for 15 min fix, #2 your there ,mech is there ,rv is there ,you can show him the problem ,he doesn,t have to try and figure out what the work sheet says.and they can do warrenty work.

So you follow the mantra to buy local so you can get local service. And 6 mo after you buy, you bring your RV to the local dealer for service and, surprise... the dealer is out of business. But didn't they tell you, promise you even, that they would remain in business for as long as you owned the rig?? They did right along with all the other bs they told you. If it is a warranty issue, you should be able to get it authorized by the factory at any reputable shop or mobile tech. And to answer your question, I've never purchased (5) from a local dealer. For the two rigs built for our full timing, there was no such thing as a local dealer since we were wandering.

We bought our current RV at Wana RV in Shipshewana. Only an hour and a half from here, but it's another state... Nice people to deal with, honest, great service shop, big selection, and the price is very hard to beat. It was the closest FunFinder dealer to us. We took it back for service one time with a small list of items to fix. They had it all done in 4 hours, and off we went. Their super service dept is a valuable consideration for us, even if it is 90 minutes away.

It will be up to the dealer if they service you or not. No recourse if they tell you no!

I would not be scared to buy from away, especially if my income paying for the camper did not rely on the local economy!

I bought at RVDirect several years ago (my last fifth wheel). Good experience, and I saved a lot of money. I NEVER had any problems getting warranty service from any authorized Keystone service center. I would have bought there again if they had carried the model I wanted.

We bought our first 3 out of state, many people do. We only use our camper when we are away so if it were to brake down we wouldn't be home anyway. A mobile RV tech would be glade to work on your RV anywhere. We had a recall on the fridge some years ago and a mobile tech did the warranty work.
