Question on Michelin LTX tires

I run these (LTX), I had to replace them two years ago, not due to wear but because they had cracks in the tread valleys. They had been on for several years I want to think over a decade, ~ 60,000 miles. Only about half way through the tread, not sure of the depth but far from the wear bars.

I have been using them for the past 20 years on 4 different vehicles.
You get what you pay for.
I have easily gotten 70,000 and up to 80,000 out of them.

The ride is far superior to other tires I have tried. We replaced the Firestones on the Suburban with these and the right was very much improved, much quieter and a lot smoother. I was going to go with Goodyear or a less expensive tire as now our tires age out rather than wear out, however the Michelins were only about 25.00 more each so it was a no-brainer to go with a far superior tire.

I am replacing the 285-75-16's on the F250 after the first of the year with the LTX/AT LT and have an out the door price of 875.00 from a mom/pop tire shop a short drive away from here. I am currently running LTX/MS but am changing now since moving here I use a lot of boat ramps that are on dirt roads and need the traction.

I will probably now have the same experience as eichacsj above and these will age out and crack as we now drive around 5000 miles per year and will not wear them out. I drive company car for work and our vehicles are only for personal pleasure use.

I have a set of E rated tires on my 2010 Chevrolet 2500HD. They currently have 35,000 miles on them. I will be lucky to get 40,000 miles out of them. Very expensive tire with 70,000 mile warranty. If you actually read the reviews and talk to tire tire people the sidewalls and rubber are very soft. Mine came with 15/32 tread when new, rotated regularly, at 30,000 miles they were down to 5/32. I run 80 psi in the rear and 65 psi in the front when towing; and around 50 psi front and back when not towing. Michelin's are great on my cars, but I am very disappointed in this set on my truck. Next time my top three choices will be Toyo, Yokohama and Cooper.

I suspect you have the LTX M/S "2's" not the old LTX M/S's which were the subject of a huge recall. I have run the LTX M/S 2's on both my F-150 and on my 24' Class C with excellent results (especially the free set of 6 for my Class C thanks to the original M/S's being recalled).

Both sets were E rated and came with a 70,000 mile tread warranty.

Rating and warranty issues aside, the Michelin Defenders can have some drawbacks. I have them on my mini-van, and my tire shop had a terrible time getting one of them balanced. The owner there told me that they had a lot of balancing problems with the Defenders.

The tread has a long wear because it is HARD. The ride is not nearly as smooth as other Michelin tires, even in a heavier vehicle like a mini-van. It might be better on a truck, but I'm betting it still won't be as good as another Michelin tire. I had the Harmony line on my van before the Defenders, and the ride was MUCH better.

I recommend doing some reading and research before switching to them. TireRack.com is a good source of reviews and information on tires. If I had it to do over again, I would not buy the Defenders for my vehicle.

I have run the LTX/MS-2 E-rated For Summer Tires.

Just replaced them with the Defender LTX/MS E-rated that replaces the MS-2. For next Summer.


For Winter I use LTX/AT-2 E-rated


Great tires as far as I'M concerned.

fyi: I contacted Michenlin about the warranty. They said the 10 ply LT tires in my size ( 275/65R18 ) have a 50,000 mile warranty. They said the 10 ply tires have a " different mileage expectancy " than the 4 ply tires. The 4 plys are not E rated and they recommended the 10ply for towing due to stiffness.

I still plan to get the LT tires this week. Just curious about the mileage warranty. Reviews are overall great everywhere I look.

Previously coming from Toyos, I went with Michelin LTX tires. I am pretty confident they will not last over 50,000 miles perhaps as little as 40,000 miles. Disappointed in the tire life. Doubt I would purchase them again as they are way too expensive for what you get. They are also not that impressive in snow.

Great tires.
I put 6 of them (not the 2's, but the originals) after I wore out the rubber my dually came from the factory with.
I logged over 127,000 K on them which was about 800 shy of 80,000 miles before I replaced them with the same tire but the version 2.
Never a problem ever with them aside from a couple repairs where I picked up a screw on the road somewhere.
I exceeded the mileage warranty by a lot.
