Want to get a set of new tires for our just-acquired 2012 GMC 2500HD. Was thinking of getting Michelin LTX (245/75R17) because we had them on our F250 and I liked them. Bought those 4 or so years ago. Their cost seems to have gone way up tho. from what I recall. Best price at the time was at a Walmart.Just started some googling and I see that Amazon has them for about 1/2 of everyone else which doesn't seem right. I'm seeing prices in the $200-300 range per each while Amazon has them for $102.50 with free shipping. Amazon prices.What am I missing? They also list the same tire with a price of $227.99. The only difference I can see is a speed rating of s vs R and maybe the lower cost one may not have a factory warranty? Then there's the question of the date code and how they are. $410 for a set of 4 sure sounds nice compared to around $1K or so but is too good to be true.

The tires are being sold by Performance Tire & Wheel through the Amazon store. They have good reviews plus a phone number and email contact. I would check with them about the age of the tires and ask about the "too good to be true" price. Ask about the weight rating. Even though these tires are named "LTX" I don't think that they are LT tires. These tires only weigh 32lbs according to the specs. The more expensive tire weighs 44.3lbs. I suspect that you want the sturdier tire on a 2500 truck.

Well if you zoom over the item shown on the web site that one is a "P" rated tire.

I didn't zoom, but I figured it was a "P" rated tire. Something else, when Michelin came out with the LTX and for several years had a 70,000 tread wear rating. When I went to replace mine 2 years ago, worn out at 47,000, the LTX was renamed LTX something. The only difference was the new logoed sidewall. But they dropped the treadwear rating down to 50,000. A tire shop put me onto this situation. The only 2 places I could find that would honor the treadwear mileage or lack thereof was Costco, but you only had one choice and that was a B F Goodrich something. Stopped at Discount Tire and asked if they would honor the treadwear on something else. They said "any tire we sell". And the tire tech smiled and said "evidently you know what "Bib" did. They gave me $40.00 each of the six tires. Needless to say "Bib" went bye-bye.

It looks like the difference is in the load index. The cheaper one is rated 112 @ 2469 lbs and the other is rated 121 @ 3195 lbs. I want LRE so I can't see getting out of paying more. The lower rating I assume is P-metric? I had thought the LTX is only LTE.

On the upside, going with the smallest tire size you can will give your truck the most oomph up n over the mountians. But Lynnmor might tell you different, since torque doesn't matter apparently. Effective gear ratio might not either, lol.

Sounds like you got tires. The difference between the original post tires was the Load Index rating

Cheap tire was a 112 index number which is 2469 lb. capacity tire.

Your truck needs a Load Index tire of 120/121/122 to maintain factory weight capacity.

Casr in point, looking at used commercial mowers around here, what I'm after goes for $7k plus. Back in WI, same machines are $5k-.

LOL! Little California, Seattle is like little NYC, prices in downtown Seattle compare directly to Manhattan NYC!!!

If you are referring to a Cap, topper, camper shell, or whatever else one might call them (made by LEER, ARE, and others) I would hope with a little research, you can find one much cheaper.

I know in BC things are harder to come by, and more expensive, but you probably can find one across the border rather reasonable. Here in the Southeastern US, toppers bring $500 to $600 and thats about it. Last year I bought an '03 Ram 2500 longbed and long bed toppers for third gen trucks are a little rare. I finally found a LEER made in 2014 (but for a 3rd gen Ram Longbed) for $600 that even had a Thule roof rack option on it. The guy has paid $2600 new for the top in 2014 to fit his 2002 1500 long bed (3rd gen began in '02 with the 1500 and then in '03 with 25/3500 models) and so I got a nearly new top for way cheaper. This is an average going price down here.

Looking at Bellingham WA, I see they, on average, bring more money, and of course, long bed models are hard to find (if that is what you have) but I see a couple that might be fits for you.

Got lucky today and just had a set of tires installed. Turns out the guy used to own a tire shop for 30 years, races cars and has a big shop at his house and stacks of tires all over. Only a few minutes from us too.

He had a set of new Goodyear Wranglers that I got instead. Balanced and installed for a total of $750 Can (about $500 US), all in, no taxes. Too good to refuse. Not sure it they're the best towing tire but way better than what the truck came with. New tires at a regular shop here were going to be about double that.

Almost back in the camping game... :)

Talked to the Guy selling the Michelins on CL last night and he only has two left. A dealer just bought 24 of them on the weekend that he had. So it may be cheaper to get the pair and find a couple more new ones somewhere. His tires are dated '18 or '19 and were removed from a fleet purchase of trucks at a local dealer.

Another brand is a possibility but don't know what the end cost would be?

Besides having to buy a replacement truck and to spend a grand on new tires and $1500+ on a canopy, it's getting to be an expensive camping season and we've only done about 10 nights so far. Things all started when DW dropped her new Samsung phone last week and smashed the glass on the back. :E And the TT is due for new tires and toilet and tongue jack need replacing. Good thing there isn't a bridge nearby here.

Free IMHO is too cheap for Michelin, unless they are the XDE M+S or equal I have on the rear of my dump truck. Not a lot of luck with the LT sized tires. TOYO or Cooper would be my first choices.
